Fiat Freak Out 2006. Near Detroit with my 2 older boys. As the Fiat Lancia Unlimited website says: "Fiat Freak Out in Detroit (July 13th thru 16th). ... Car museum tours, afternoon drives, an autocross and of course the concours car show. We even have a Bocce game on the schedule! The Detroit Marriot Pontiac at Centerpointe (http://www.stayatmarriott.com/FiatLanciaUnlimited/) ...There will be ...plenty of quality parking lot time to renew old friendships while checking out the cars....our annual event is a very special weekend. It's so rare to see another Fiat or Lancia on the road these days, suddenly the vision of scores of our beloved Italian machinery is nothing short of surreal...." http://www.flu.org/ So here are some of my pics. The Henry Ford Museum is pretty cool. Two of the pics are morbid (but interesting) The chair and car Lincoln and Kennedy were sitting in (respectively) when killed. The yellow bus is the one in which Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat to a white man. Looking forward to seeing them if you have some... I love those cars and that one looks like it has one of those really campy 1970's paint jobs...
Great pictures Sam! I noticed Jim's Panda in the photo of the red X1/9. They continued on from Detroit to join us at the Mirafiori.com annual gathering in Oregon. They lost 5th gear along the way and suffered with a top speed of 55 for most of the way! But it was repaired in the campground by Chris Obert and they continued down to California with all five forward gears. I hope to make it to a Freakout one of these years.
Great pictures, thank you for sharing. What's the deal with the Panda? Is it vising here (I noticed it has British plates) or is it street legal in the U.S.?
That is the car of a Brit (Northern Ireland) who had the car shipped to the USA. I actually picked it up for him in Port Newark. This guy ships his little Fiat all over the world (Africa, Europe and now the USA) for drives. He drove it from NJ to Detroit, then on to California and back to NJ (!). It has got right hand drive, 5-speed manual, foreign plates and tons of racing and car related stickers. I drove it on a steaming day with no A/C. Actually fun to drive, and with a Cavallino sticker prominent in my field of vision, it was almost like the Mondial...but faster...LOL. I passed by several cops with those foreign plates and they left me alone. He said not one ever stopped him either.
I've never driven a Panda but I've driven a 1992 Fiat Uno which is very similar to the Panda, I love it. Do you have any more pictures of it?
Photos of mine including at previous Freak-Outs posted here. http://www.cardomain.com/ride/803556/1 Car is for sale. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Ah... I didn't think a $200 Fiat would ever grace the pages of 'FerrariChat'lol Strangly the Panda was just delivered back to the UK this morning and I came across this thread by accident. All went well on the trip and I hope to see you all again.
