Kudos to Birdman, Again!

I know this is getting annoying, all of us praising how great Birdman's replacement fuse blocks are, but I just got done installing them in my '78 308 GTS. They are absolutely super! The change-over was easy as could be, everything fit perfectly, and it's great to have real fuses there instead of those stupid Euro-bullet fuses.

BTW, when I removed the old fuse blocks, the left block had melts behind #1 top connector, and was cracked at #2. That was totally hidden from the front. I was wondering why I was doing this, until I removed the old one and saw the potential problem lurking there. Thanks, Jonathan, for the save!!!

Now for the relays... I took down the numbers and went to Pep Boys and Strauss Auto, and neither of them could find the right relays for me. After all, they didn't have "1978 Ferrari 308" their computers, so they were clueless what the numbers meant. I'm going to go to a real auto parts store tomorrow and hopefully they can help me, but does anyone have cross-reference numbers on any of these:

Bosch relays:
0332 014 113 (12V 30A)

0332 015 006 (12V 2X15A)

0332 204 101 (12V 20/30A)

Rockauto.com has most of the relays for about $8.00 each.

Hi Steve,
Thanks for the kudos. I know everyone else is sick and tired of it, but hey, I never get tired of it!

Looking at your picture, I'm noticing on the left block, at terminals T1 and T2 there is a jumper connecting T1 and T2. This was clearly added by the previous owner to correct a bad bus bar on the back of the block. You can remove it and then also remove the splitter terminals on those blocks so the regular wires can be plugged right in directly. That will make everything even more reliable. My fuseblocks do not need that jumper; they are connected together on the back at the buss bar which is soldered securely.

You are well on your way to a trouble-free electrical system, grasshopper!

Thanks for the advise on that jumper. I was wondering about that, but figured I'd just move everything from the old block to the new. I'll correct that tonight.

As for the relays, I got two cross-reference numbers.

0332 014 113 (12V 30A) crosses to Standard RY88
0332 204 101 (12V 20/30A) crosses to Standard RY30

Both are readily available and reasonably priced.

The third one, however, 0332 015 066 (12V 2X15A), I cannot get a cross to a new number. Anyone have an idea where I can get that one??

anything Bosch I get from rockauto.com ( also referenced above) never had any problem with avail or service or price ( htey are big bosch dist. with various warehouses around the country) off topic.. but they rebuilt my MAF's and it was reasonable, fast and worked.

Correctamundo, Mike. A mere typo on my part. :-)

I actually contacted Bosch and confirmed that all of those numbers are still valid stock numbers for those relays. I then found them all quite easily in the on-line catalogue at rockauto.com. Reasonable prices, so I'm ordering them all from them. Since they are not stock items, it will take a week or two, but they are all coming.

Thanks definitely go to Jonathan/Birdman for bringing those fuse blocks to the masses (he made mine too), but let's not forget credit to Tazio/Novolari for the concept/design!

I am doing a lot of preventative maintenance on my 77GTB. Yesterday ordered his fuse boxes and also ordered a new set of relays from Rockauto. I tried several other places and only rock auto had all of them. here are the prices:

0332015006 $1742 quantity 2

0332204101 $9.59 quantity 3

0332014113 $7.96 Quantity 7

Shipping from two sources: 23.09

Total for all new Bosch relays: 142.42

thee old stock relays are getting on to 30 years of age despite the 27k on the clock. The old relays will make good emergency spares.
