imagine if this happened to your ferrari: From the article: here's some pictures. http://www.my914-6.com/crap/
1. What a friggen nightmare... 2. WTF was this guy doing taking that car to a Goodyear store??? 3. See #2....
At least this guy claims to have forced them to read the instructions, so he knew were the owner's manual was. People are cheap by nature........over 15 years ago we had a guy take his $115K 928 to a Canadian Tire store (Wal Mart/PEP Boys service equivalent) to get winter tires mounted. Porsche is very specific in their wheel mounting instructions, thou shall not use power tools......the apprentice at Canadian Tire welded the bolts onto the magnesium wheels as a result of the speed and friction from the air gun. If had had done them with a torque wrench by hand and using anti sieze lubricant everything would have been fine.....it cost the store $8K.......
This happened to a guy over at the MR2 owners site. The idiot in the instance there didn't know that because it's a mid-engine car 60% of the weight is in the rear and like this guy put it on the lift wrong. At least this owner's getting taken care of. The occasion with the MR2 occurred in a mom and pop muffler shop and last I'd heard they were trying to stick it to him and not pay out anything.
This seems to explain it pretty well: "My Father-in-law is the service manager and has been for 10 years." Shame about the car. That whole in the tub will be difficult to repair properly. >8^) ER
Sorry for the troubles...hope it works out. From the pic it's almost like once the front wheels were removed, it was enough to shift the weight back and slide off the lift.
I'm sorry...what state was that? These guys are buffoons! Their purpose on earth is simply to make me laugh! (I'm still laughing. ****ing idiots.)
Well if it were me I would say just one thing. "You guys just bought me a brand new Elise and I'll be in your rental Lexus until it arrives, bye."
the dealers are just as stupid some times. I took my dads Acura to the dealer for a full service, well they used an air gun to take off the wheel locks with the key I gave them......the service guy comes up to me and says well I got to charge you for new wheel locks $90.... I said why, 'well the key broke' 'How does the key break??' 'well they are not made to last long' long story short, cause he used an air gun with the key, he broke the thread inside..... Argued with the moron, credited my $90 back
They couldn't have picked a worse car to do that with since, as indicated, practically any body work damage necessitates the entire clamshell being replaced.
I've know the owner of the car for several years. He lives in Orlando and has several Porsches. I've sat in that car and my daughter has too. He is one of the nicest guys around. Latest news is that it is in the hands of the closest dealer in Clearwater to determine damage to the car. What's wrong with taking the car to a Goodyear store when your father in law runs the place? Goodyear is sorta known for tires. He wasn't getting his engine rebuilt there.
Yeah, but if he was just going in for tires, why did they have to put it on a lift and raise it that high? All that was needed was a floorjack and tire wrench. Secondly, if they were unsure where to lift the car...DON'T LIFT IT! Post #3 captures the moment.
Agree; whenever I get new tires on the Ferrari, they've always only used a floor jack...no need to put it on the lift. Damn, that sucks!
Yeah there's "no need for a lift but it's much easier. And the owner may have had the tech look at somthing and that could have caused the car to be raised higher, so the fact that it was on a hoist makes no difference at all. Why would you jack a car one wheel at a time when you could raise the car by hoist? Too bad, glad no one was hurt and I would still have the shop either buy my car or pay bucks for the mistake, no way I would take a loss down the road on resale.
This a Goodyear store. All the bays have lifts. It is easier to mount a tire at chest height than it is while bending over on the ground. There is no problem using a lift, the problem was they didn't read HOW to use the lift.
To jack up an Elise on all four wheels you have to first take off the underpanel, and then jack it up at 4 specfic points that are marked on the frame. I think they used the points that are used to jack up either the right or left side of the car (not both at the same time) that are marked on the underpanel instead. The car is rear heavy so the car slid off. Sucks since the guy has a road rally organized for this weekend that I was going on too Luckily he has another car to use.
Not to be disrespectful , but I've never seen a car fall off a lift before. The pictures are amazing.
