A couple of the F-chat guys got together today and went for a boat ride to Catalina. We filled the boat (or so we thought) till he gas gauge said full and we were off. We hit 90 on the way there, stopped in Avalon, had some lunch and headed home. The Water was choppier on the way back so 80 was our best. Somewhere near PV the starboard engine sputtered and died. Out of Gas, when we left we had half a tank. Well glad we had two engines, we were still going then the port engine quit!! Both gauges went from 1/2 a tank to empty in about 5 minutes. Well to make a long story short, we got the Sea Tow to come give us gas, 15 gallons a side. When we fired back up the tanks indicated 1/2 a tank!! The gauges were totally off!!!!!!! We made it back barely (after dark) and are planning another trip next week!! Next time making sure we have full tanks!! Hell last week it was a airbag in Ice Man's 430 this week no gas, can't wait to see what next week brings!!!! To the F-Troop gang, I had a blast, in spite of the gas situation, we have a good group here in So. Cal. Look forward to next week!! To the people with cameras, POST

OK, so it's officially called F-Troop Gilligan Thread. I was contemplating how to name it, but you took care of that.

It was a great day at sea. I suggested calling the Coast Guard but one of the crewthought that was a bad idea. So the rest of us decided to post this thread on coastguardchat.com (if there is such a thing) instead. We didn't want to embarass Jorge. I'm sure his co-workers would be amused.

Captain John is a mad man and made this day an amazing amount of fun. Getting "rescued" by the Semen (or is it sea-man)Tow Service was the highlight, although their skipper was pissed off having to come out. He would have rather barked at sea lions.

    How about some pictures.

I've driven that boat and been in it many times... bad azz.

Never rely on Cigarette fuel guages, once they crack off of full, it's like being on reserve in your car.

Rule of thumb ... always FILL-UP before running over to Catalina.

Had a great time John. Thanks for being such a generous host.

Those fuel guages are very accurate when they read empty, but that's about it.

    I'll have pics up tonight.

BTW: Mike's rank in the Marine Corps is Captain, so he really is CAPTAIN FERRARI!! We should get him a ride in one of the F cars next time he comes up.

Thats awesome! Im jealous. It reminds me of the scene in the new Miami Vice where their taking the boat from miami to cuba to go get drinks.

How long is the ride one way, to Catalina?

Nice!!!!! Nice to meet you this morning John. Definitely wanted to get home and take a look at this thread. Gorgeous weekend for a catalina run. Hope to join you guys sometime. My camera probably isn't even close to waterproof, but I'd be happy to take pictures any time.

    See you next Sunday!

Edit: "How long is the ride one way, to Catalina?" - "26 miles across the sea..." (probably less, but close enough)

Hey, that's the reason you carry a few oars onboard. With all those young strong guys, you should have been able to row your way home @ 30 knots easy ;).

At least you made it home! 1 mile to the gallon, what do you expect.

My Fountain Lightning has the same problem with the fuel gauges. Half tank on the gauges means your near 1/4 in the tanks. Fountain's video supplied with the boats tells you not to trust the gauges. Comes down to how the boat is sitting in the water at a stop compared to how the boats ride at speed.

You can also plan on a boat with twin supercharged screws running at 80 - 90 mph will be getting less than 1 mile to the gallon. A good day on my boat equals about 150 gallons of gas. Gas on Tahoe runs about $6 a gallon. Makes the exotic cars look cheap to operate!

At 90 mph in that boat, it's more like how many gallons per mile !!!

Twin 900's pushing 11k lbs is serious business

What's even more fun than running your boat at 90+ mph is running it 75+ in 5'-7' seas .... it's almost like work :D

    That's a monster boat

    G

pics of my last boat, floating off Ft Lauderdale and running to Catalina during a SCOPE Poker Run ... this boat ran an honest 93mph

So you've had a land accident two weeks ago, and a water accident last week...

My recommendation? DON'T GO NEAR ANY AIRPLANES THIS WEEKEND.
