The 1968 Geneva Auto Show ran from March 14th-24th, 1968.

If 6036 was completed at the factory on April 23rd, 1968, as the 12th Islero made (per the earlier post), that would mean that an uncompleted car was used as the show car. I suppose that could be possible, but it seems unlikely.

Edit: One detail about the Islero pictured at the Geneva Show - the trim strip below the door APPEARS to be much wider than the strip seen on other Islero's.

Hi

No - Paul told me this when I bought it, along with the history tracing back to B Bardot - frankly he could have told me it was owned by Mickey Mouse and I'd have still bought the car! (and believed him...).

He bases his theory on the fact that the front seats don't have head rests in the Geneva car (6000 does), the fact that it was delivered with a tan hide (which my car had, but was retrimmed at a later date) and the colour checks out. 6000 also had borranis...

I rest the case for 6036...

Regards

Iain

Thumbs up

When these threads are started, it needs dedicated effort to keep them going or else they drop off and the info is hidden (where is that Islero site?).

Hi Joe and all,

Thanks, I agree with you, and I'll do my best!

Here's another Japanese Islero GTS, this time red with golden rims.
Any suggestions about the number anybody?

Best regards,
Marcello

I talked to Paul a little more about the car.

Although there appears to be no concrete documentation, the wood gas cap is believed to be original. Paul told me he has tried to put a locking gas cap on as a test replacement and it would not fit - so some modification must have been done to the neck as well.

The interior-color-matched leather covered dash - it was recovered prior to Paul's ownership, so he is not sure if it was interior-color-matched from the factory. Original interior color was apparently tobacco (red exterior).

The quilted interior panels were added by a subsequent owner - as well as the under-hood matching quilted hanging cover for the fuse block.

It was for the air conditioning. I had a 400 back in the '70s with the same studs, plus a compressor that was bolted to them and lots of hoses. The system was useless, all it did was drip water into the passenger footwell.

Mind you, I didn't buy the car because it had air conditioning!

The Islero has to be one of the best looking cars of all time and is on my list for purchase in the future. Beautiful pics in this thread!

It would be nice if you also could take some pictures of the engine,
and the chassis/engine/body number plates in the engine compartment.
Here's an example.
Ah yes, 6643. I used to own that car! Last I knew it was in San Diego. Do you own it now?

Racing Islero

Hi all,

I found recently this photo. Could this be the one that failed to qualify at LeMans?

Sincerely

Hi Philippe,

Yes, I think it it is!

Race # was 34. It was an early series 1 Islero campaigned by Paul Rilly from the area near Tours.

Thanks a lot!
I had never seen a picture of the car before, GREAT!

Ciao!
Marcel

hmmmm....for my opinion its not "the best looking car of all time!". This is IMO a little bit over-enthusiastic!! Let`s say it like this: the ISLERO was always a car with presence and - style!

Ciao!

Well, in that case I think we most have some competition, and perhaps we could organise an Islero meeting here in Europe as well at that time.
In Holland we have about 8 Islero's, so the record of 5 could be broken by us Dutchies allone:-). And 11 is our goal, hèhè...

Here's an older picture of your car when it was still in Switzerland
(on the right)

Best regards,
Marcello
Marcello, are you sure? I brokered the ice-blue Islero (#6637) 1,5 years ago to Holland. It came from Munich/Germany. Perhaps there are now 6 in the Tulips-Country???

Ciao!
Walter

Well, in that case, vielen dank for your help ;-)
This Tullip Country is just too small to hide cars,
so I have seen it twice already, so this one was included.
That's a lovely car, great color for an Islero.

Ciao!

That's #6198, the after market vents allows engine heat to escape.

Thanks for the pictures!

No, it was just a picture I had in my files to use as an example to show how a chassisnumberplate should look like.

Last thing I know that this green car was offered by Udo from Florida, shortly after he bought it in Florida.

Do you have another Islero instead?

Best regards,
Marcel
