Just what everyone wants -- a car that has been under the "care" of a rock guitarist who is best known for pointing a shotgun at cops. Rockers are known for being such great caretakers!!!
I guess you were right about rockers and maintenance-here is a quote from the ad- "The Ferrari is at Tim Stanford's shop and has some engine issues. There is a cylinder that has lost compression. The car will start and run but Tim recommends that it not be driven till the proper repairs are made. Tim recommends that the motor be rebuilt. He can begin work immediately once authorization is given by the new owner"
What do you think guys? At least an additional $20k for the engine rebuild? Someone should get that VIN number into the 308 registry. One other old rock guy who is into Ferrari's is Greg Giuffria: http://www.ferraricluboflasvegas.com/cars/Gregg_Giuffria_360_Modena-2.jpg http://www.ferraricluboflasvegas.com/cars/Gregg_Giuffria_360_Modena.jpg Paul
Nooooo..... I think that's far too high - 10-12k, tops (at least IMO). Anyway, I'd buy it just to say I owned a car once owned by a guy named Yngwie - how cool is that?!
It might be something really minor. I know that on a 2V Mondial 8, my friend (and Master Mechanic) Bret was able to cure a "blown" engine with minimal parts cost -- few hundred bucks for a valve or two. He did the major at the same time, since the engine was already out. Of course, he did all his own labor. As for Yngwie, I used that name in high school and college when someone at a restaurant needed a name to call. (It's easier to hear Yngwie than Sam over a loudspeaker.) Now Paul308 gets the award for "most obscure rocker to own a Ferrari reference"!!! Gregg Giuffria? I can just hear his keyboards rocking on "Call to the Heart". Holy 1984, Batman!!! By the way, no matter how much I love Borranis (and if you look at my www.apexstrategy.com business web site, you'll see how much I love them -- it's a part of my web and biz card logo!!!) I don't like them on 308s. I guess they just look out of place. Just my opinion -- I must be a purist, or something.
Steve, I was at Tim Stanford's shop today and Yngwie walk in and Tim introduced me to him. He was wearing a gold cavallino around his neck.
Erm, it's uh, pretty cool Aaron. Yes. It is. In a late '70s Cadillac kind of way, totally. At least he drove the car - I think most rock guitarists with a recording contract would follow the beat-it-up-and-trade-it-up ownership path.
why is Yngwie selling? His ass is too big for a 308 ! I saw him last year in San Francisco, and I wouldn't let him take a ride in my 328!
So did someone on ferrari chat buy Yngwie's 308? I saw the high bid was 25,100 and it didn't look like there was a reserve on it. Paul
Saw a DVD of his at this record store up the street and heard a reference to him on the radio all in the same day. Because of this thread he's become a source of humor between my girlfriend and I. Never heard of him 'till this thread.
Haven't heard from him in a while...but back in the day, he could certainly wail on the guitar. Crazy fast...in a big hair screamin' guitar rocker sort of way... there was a post on youtube of the 20 greatest guitar solos...Yngwie was in the 20 and the video was worth watching.
You know...completly unrelated to Fcars but Yngie M. brought up the musical issue that goes "just because you can play that many notes that fast accurately doesn't mean you should". Great technician yes...great artist??? I dunno.
Speaking of musicians that love Ferraris, I stumbled across the bio for the lead singer of the band Jamiroquai. Read the 'cars' section of the bio. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jay_Kay
Yeah, Jay Kay is a well known car collector in the UK. After all, why else would they have an album cover like this?........ Image Unavailable, Please Login
Hey guys, i bought Yngwie's 83 308 qv back in May. Right now it's at my co-worker's house and he's rebuilding the engine for me. He pulled the head on one bank and there's evidence that the valves have contacted the pistons. So we're going to have to do a complete rebuild. I want to upgrade to high-compression pistons, EFI, Tubi and headers. Where can i find these items? Also, any tips you have regarding rebuilding the engine would be appreciated. Thanks! Here's a pic of the Maestro and me: Image Unavailable, Please Login
RIGHT ON! CONGRATS!!!! Now, are you going to do anything about the wheels while you're at it, some guys seemed to think they were a bit over-the-top. However, if you want to capitalize on the association to Yngwie, LEAVE THE WHEELS (in my humble opinion). Let us know how it goes. As far as the parts, there are several sponsors to FChat that can help you find the necessary parts, and I'm assuming many FChatters will kick in with thier opinions. AGAIN CONGRATS !!!!
