Jennie, myself, Jimpo1, and Crystie left Dallas at 9am, arrived into Montreal about 3pm after layover in Detroit. Rush hour from airport to hotel. Staying at the Sandman, right across river from island. Can't see any track, but can see the stands.

Plan is for Jim and I to do the track stuff during the day while the ladies do the town. Have reservations at Brunoise tomorrow night and then Jardin Nelson Saturday night with the FChat crowd. Ladies will then join us at track for race.

    View of island from room...

Didn’t expect much tonight after getting in, a little tired and didn’t have specific plans. Took the subway, which is across the street from hotel, to Peel St. for the Ferrari show. This will be a great setup with the hotel and subway, track is first stop and then Peel St. only about 6 stops away. All very convenient. Great turnout of Ferraris on Peel St. Never heard of the Luigi Ferrari Club, but good variety from GT4 to 430 and TR to 575. No vintage or super Ferraris, but great turnout otherwise. Had very good supper at L’Aromate except for serving on European time. Entire meal took 2.5 hours. We then just walked down Rene-Levesque to southwest and did some window shopping. A few places carrying Puma products, bought Mia a small Ferrari hat. All of a sudden almost by accident we come apon the closed Crescent street party. Wow, these few blocks were rocking, great pubs right along street and a stage with live music. Subway back to hotel, turned out to be a great night.

If it works out, try to fit in a meal at New Town, JV's restaurant. We ate there Sat eve of the 2005 event, and at the table next to us were JV and FM, and the food was actually quite good, which was almost a bonus given the atmosphere. One of the highlights of a great weekend.

    I second that.

Funny comment Rob about "the European service". You're quite right, it is very different and drives me nuts every time I go back.

Keep us posted with your report pls.

I'll third that but without advance reservations it might be impossible this weekend. Great food. Why not go to the bar on the upper level - it provides a view over the mass of folks in the street and the band. You can usually get a bar stool along the rail. Montreal is the place to go to experience the "European Grands Prix" if you don't make the hop across the pond. Rob - if it sill exists, there's a nice Italian type restaurant below the Casino - walk the course after the race, get a table there overlooking the water and watch the transporters start coming in to do their work. It makes for a great way to spend time avoiding the mad rush to the subway to get off the island. Enjoy

Here a few shots from my 2005 experience at Newtown (Gary, we must have been in the restaurant at the same time):

My dinner plate, a picture of the bar and a shot from the roof deck as Carol mentions it:

    It is.

Because they concentrate all the F1 partying in one street you really get a feeling for the magnitude of the event that's in town.

While other European cities celebrate their F1 race as well, few (Monaco and Barcelona being the exception) have that kind of electrifying atmosphere.

Makes me wonder what a night GP in Singapore will be like? :)

It's always frustrating to see how close you are to the track as the crow flies, but can't walk it. Look for the river taxi. It's supposed to be really quick and let you off right behind the Metro station on the island. Have fun!

Sounds like fun. Don't forget the, "F-chat rocks" or similar sign held up in the most opportune Canadian GP, photo ops. :)

Good day so far. Slept in recovering from last night and a busy week in Dallas. Watched first part of practice 1 from hotel, then Jim and I took T over. Easy to get over, but only surprise was the LONG walk from T to our seats at 11. The scenery makes the walk enjoyable though. :) Peeks of the track as they finished practice 1.

Ran into rcallahan behind stand 11, we walked over together behind I think 10 with all the vendors. Practice 1 was over and watched BMW practice a little, then Jim and I headed up the straight. Very hot today, kept in the shade and hydrating all we could. Practice 2 snuck into the straight away seats to watch the pits. Since we'll be down turn 1-4 for Q and Race, neat to watch the pits and straight away today.

Back at hotel now, have reservation at Brunoise 7pm. Great weekend so far, a +1 for Montreal experience so far.

I had such an experience all weekend long in 05. But ey, that's what Molson's is here for!

You probably got the heatwave we had here yesterday. If our weather today is any indication, you should be doing just fine tomorrow.

Be sure to catch the Formula Ford race just before the F1 race. I'm assuming they're still doing that after all these years.

Brunoise last night was really good. Forgot which stop, but back in a nice residential neighborhood of brownstones. 7 course meal again on Euro time, 3 hours! Jim and I had to have a Big Mac as soon as we got back for our 8th course. :) Met some nice people back in hotel bar buying each other drinks. Very painful this morning.

Watched Challenge qualifying at Turn 6. Good choice as a ton of action here, one big spin and then the 430 that backed into the wall and almost got t-boned as they red flaged the session was right up from 6.

F1 qualifying from our regular seats. Wow, we have just been really lucky for never coming to Montreal before. Hotel is perfect one stop away, but opposite direction of downtown, so we avoid all the crowds. The seats have also turned out great just by pure luck. We're in 11-4. We have good angle of start/finish and pits, while also seeing the complete first turns complex. Also perfect distance up.

Off to the FChat gathering in a little.

Reminds me of a trip with some friends. Once we were back in Paris after a week in the French countryside we all run into the neartest McD's. French food is fantastic, but it comes in such small quantities...:) A hearty Big Mac, French-Canadian fries and some nice Rouge, c'est la vie!

I had the same seats as you do for my first visit to Montreal. They're great, particularly for the first lap. Put your camera in continous mode until they're all gone, because somebody will screw up those esses. Try the hairpin on your next trip.

    Bonne soiree!

We really are. First time any of us have been to Montreal, but I really like the city. I can't believe how nice everyone is, this is a big hustle and bustle city, but we haven't run into a single rude person. No negativity against us yanks or even speaking English. French is spoken first and all the time, but everyone seems like they enjoy to switch over to English. Amazing we're in North America, Montreal is so European. Very very cool. Oh yes, the women here are absolutely gorgeous. Dark complexion and skin, tinny little... well, our hotel is next to the University. :D
