These are the steps taken to complete a 30x40 inch oil painting of the interior of a 250GT California LWB. The reference shots were taken at the Cavallino Classic in Florida of s/n 1663GT.
The original car was red. But i took extreme liberities with colour. This isnt a photo-recreation per se. I wanted to enhance colour - perhaps, to some, to an extreme. The painting is heavy on blues and purples. Much more than is any real-life interior.
This is also my first attempt at oils in about 8 years. (A small 250LM detail done back around 1999.) Hence, i wasnt overly confident in its success. Therefore, this thread is not in real time. Since it DID turn out to my satisfaction - i will definitly stick with oils for a while, at the same time keeping up with the watercolours - a friend and fellow FChatter highly suggested that this thread would be considered a plus. So here goes...

    Enjoy.

Here is the original pencil sketch. A rough one (extremely rough) to work out composition and cropping and such. I was going to include the whole windscreen and have more of the nondescript background, but decided to crop it out and make the steering wheel the main focus. Too much background would detract from that...

Yes, its been through alot... the painting IS heavy on blues and purples as you can see... :)

Great start Grant. Keep them coming.
That sketch looks like its been worked with quite a bit. LOL! A hint as to the work and effort that goes into this endeavor, eh?

    Yep... here it is. Enjoy!!
Sketching is great.. could do it all day. Not just cars. When visiting Yorkville (for the cars) i bring the ol' sketchbook and draw.
Vacations too.. tho not so much anymore... they are time consuming and sitting watching me draw for an hour or 2 isnt all THAT much fun for my wife... but back in the 90s i drew several on Worth Ave. in Palm Beach, a couple of palm tree studys in South Beach, Vintage plane drawings at Tiamiami Air Museum - mustve been there 3 hours drawing! Time just flies by.

    Anyways.. enjoy the thread!

Those sketches would be awesome to see. Any chance of posting some of them?

Speaking of sketching, what about that famous whiteboard of yours? Still doing your magic with the magic markers?

    Paintings coming along. Looking great!!

    Thx Frank.
I'll see if i can find those sketches and give y'all a look-see.

As for the white board: some interesting visuals. Not all Ferraris (i know... SHOCKING!) but i had some requests.
First here are a couple from the past. The blue Ferrari is a still shot from that FABULOUS Shell commercial. Its currently onboard.
    I'll find the others.

Whoah!!! Those are AMAZING. The master of markers you are!!!
That blue one from the Shell commercial is so well done. Thats the Ferrari from the New York scenes right?
The sharks were a request? You have a Jaws fan working there eh? LOL. The use of purples and greens for that is just incredible. You only have, what, 4 or 5 colours and you come up with these master-works? Just astounding.
Just curious.. are you going to add colour to the blue one or is it done?
And the painting is coming together wonderfully... As usual...
    Look forward to updates.
    F.

    Thank you both.

Yes... i am afraid they do have to be erased from time to time. I like to change them up every now and then. I take pictures though.

As for the shark... the guy was more of fan of "Shark Week" on the Discovery Channel, than of Jaws.

I HAVE been considering adding colours to the blue line-work. Maybe. If i do i will update y'all.

Next step... starting in on the background. A "mirage" of nondescript shapes and colour.
Also some defining of the gearshift and such.

And... a major whiteboard undertaking. My old manager wanted something spectatular for her larger-than-average whiteboard (ours is less than a third of this thing) Took some time to come up with an idea but finally settled on this. Toronto from the CN tower vantage point. A month later i finally finished it. Little bits at a time each day before work-hours.
Was the talk of the building for some time.
