Over a week ago my clutch slave cylinder puked all over my left header so i decided to park it back in the garage and get back to it when I could. Now that I have time I decided to buy the seal from ferrariUK and they dont have the part not even the cylinder assy. Any suggestions? I would rather rebuild it than pay 5 times what its actually worth unless I have no other choice and now im getting the shakes from not driving the car. I need to fix the car and get my fix.

Dick Fritz told me once that the slave cyl guts are the same as the Renault LeCar and the rebuild kit was only a few $.

Decent source of info- might be true.

I've never seen one apart, but isn't there just a couple O-Rings on the piston?
    Any pictures of the thing?
If it's just o-rings, try a hydraulics shop.

I had to change mine quickly, the night b4 a show. I do recall that Partsource fedexed a new cylinder and that to change it was far more difficult than it appeared to be. The new one did work well, however. I have never had luck rebuilding hydraulic cylinders, even with the proper hones, etc.

My cylinder was leaking and I recently re-built it. I think I got the seal from Ferrari of Atlanta. I think it was about $30.0 or something like that. The cylinder wasn't in bad shape, no real pitting, or I would have had it re-sleeved, I just used a standard hone on a drill and finished it off by hand with some 800 and 1000 paper. The seal is a very tight fit and I did it in my hands, but it took some serious pressure and my fingers were a little numb afterward. It has worked fine since. The bracket is a tight fit coming off next to the distributor and I had to remove a small part attached to the distributor to pull the bracket off. It looks like it won't come off even with the part off the distributor, but with a little wiggling it came off.

Im having no luck so far but my goal is to rebuild rather than replace. Being a mechanic its difficult to just buy something I know I can fix, plus Ill do a thread on it here with nice colour pics and everything! I called the local dealer after striking out with FerrariUK but im not doing much better there either.

Today (this afternoon) I rebuilt my slave cylinder, it was easy and took around 2hrs from beginning to end. I wasnt looking for beauty here just function so ignore the lack of plated parts and show stopping detail, I have plans for tomorrow which may include the car so i had to get it road-worthy asap! So, the main mount for the cylinder pinches the cylinder and holds it tight in the bore but there is a snap ring on the bottom which in my case was missing a tab so I took it off a different way - the hard way. Once the 2 nuts are removed the cylinder slides to the side but hits the distributor so you cant get it off. If the snap ring came out then the cylinder would simply slide up and out of the aluminum mounting block. In my case I removed the studs in the bellhousing and lifted the assy out with the studs still in the block, wasnt too tough. Once the snap ring for the piston is out, the spring and guts come right out. The seal was screwed, almost puckered or rippled and shrunk so it leaked bad and made a mess all over the place. The biggest challenge was getting the new seal over the piston head and into the groove, it felt like it was going to rip or break so I warmed it up in hot water, lubed it with soap and pushed like hell, it was hard on the thumbs but it got over the lip finally after at least 4 attempts, im still surprised it didnt rip the seal. So, onto the cylinder bore, it looked not too bad, no scoring just dirty so I used 2500grit wet paper to clean it up. A little dab of grease and in went the piston with some resistance and it felt smooth. The cylinder went on quickly, hook up the line and rod, top up the clutch master and pump with the bleeder screw open. I moved a lot of air out that way then closed the bleeder, pumped a half a dozen times then cracked the bleeder again and let it gravity bleed for a minute, closed the bleeder again and she was done. The clutch feels good and no leaks. Cost $65cdn (around $70usd, lol, i couldnt resist :)) and 2 hrs of my time without breaking a sweat.

Looks like mine's up next - Fortunately, I got the "air pedal" as I was putting her back in the garage, rather than out on the drive. It had started to become difficult to shift into gear at a stop, so I knew something was up and headed back. Apparently, topping up the very slow leak wasn't going to hold out 'till the trip to Norwood. Time to get my hands greasy.....let's see if I've missed it as much as I think I have.

Now, what was the part number and source for that Fiat truck???

LOL.....That just might be this thread. < looks up >
Fiat trucks aren't exactly plentiful around here anyway, but it probably crosses with a Fiat or Alfa part from eons ago that's more avaiable at one of our few specialist shops.
I'll probably just get the whole part this week for the swap, as soon as I can find it.
