I don't know how to make a poll.

How do people feel about making modifications to our cars after they left the factory; adding features that the factory would/would not have offered but weren't on your car when it was shipped out of the dealer?
For ex. bodywork such as changing a USA car to Euro spec lights/turning signals, adding body parts like flared fenders and changing the stock intake system to look like a Cobra?

Are we stewards of the vintage cars with a responsibility to the history and preservation or do you feel that if you have the bux then you can do anything you wish?

This is the type of question I hate to see in this section.

While a healthy discussion is never a bad thing, what is the purpose of this?

You made it clear in the Dino thread that you didn't appreciate someone adding flares to their Dino and now you are continuing this discussion here. While that is certainly your right, what do you hope to gain from this? Do you want to know what mods Ferrari judges won't deduct points for in your region? Do you want to make sure we all return our cars to their original colors or see to it that original hose clamps are never swapped with anything but NOS replacements?

There is one way to figure out the answer to your question. Buy a +40 year old Ferrari in need of repair and then restore it. Spend hundreds if not thousands of hours doing research, searching for original parts, pouring through photos of other cars and then getting your hands dirty making your car as it was when new.

Along the way, I am convinced that you will make choices for one reason or another that result in your car being slightly or significantly different that it was when new. When the restoration is complete, you will not only be a steward of a vintage car, you will be able to appreciate and respect the choices others make to personalize their cars when they restore them.

Best of luck with you journey.

I would think someone who is interested in authenticity would love to see others modify their cars and in doing do make his that much more rare (and more desirable in the opinion of the purists).

How about that P3 Ferrari took the engine out of/chopped the wheel base by 12mm/ put in a different typo engine, Redid the body/etc., etc. or that 250 GTO they took the series one body off of and re bodied with a series Two body. Think those should be "put" back?

Tom you're going to love this thread.

I saw an auction recently where Skip Barber purchased a 250 GTO recreation on a 250 Lusso frame for around $250,000.00. I thought that was a hell of a steal, correct me if I'm wrong.
