Veloce Vegas Run - May 16-18th, 2008

I'm a big fan of Jeffrey's Paupers Run and I understand he is taking a break from organizing the run this year. I am putting together an informal run to Vegas in the same spirit - anybody is welcome to join in and participate in whatever activities they choose. No fees, just pay for your own hotel/activities. Simple. The only mandatory item on the agenda is to have fun.

I am in the process of lining up a discount rate on a block of rooms, dinners, drives and bar/club night out. I will firm up the details shortly; please PM me or respond to this thread if you are interested. Here is our tentative schedule:

Friday, May 16th:
- Depart San Diego; meet up with OC/LA drivers in Riverside (location TBD); depart ~ 10:00 AM, arrive at Vegas hotel ~ 2:00 PM.
- Dinner, location TBD
- Spearmint Rhino???

Saturday, May 17th:
- Depart hotel in AM for drive to Lake Mead/Valley of Fire
- Lunch
- Visit to Ferrari store at the Wynn in PM
- Dinner at BOA Steakhouse (Caesar's Palace) @ 7:00 PM (will need a confirmed headcount to adjust the reservation)
- Club night, club TBD

Sunday, May 18th:
- Return home, or stay the Sunday night and:
- Hoover Dam (drive and dam tour)
- Lunch
- Bar night, bar TBD

Monday, May 19th:
- Return drive home

Jeffrey is taking a break from organizing the drive but some others might be working on a variation. That being said, this time frame might work out very well for me and I'd be very interested. Please let me know when a hotel is determined. Thanks for taking the time to do this.

I should have a hotel worked out within a few days - I am waiting on price quotes from a few places and making sure they can accomodate us in terms of secure self parking, etc. It is time for a Vegas run!

The parking is key. I think that was one of the reasons we stayed where we did each year is they were willing to give us a roped off area in the garage so we could self park. The rooms were really reasonable as well. Thanks for doing this.

Jeffrey IS taking a break from organizing a Pauper's Run but would definitely be interested in attending someone else's run! If Jon (Modenfan) is going ... I'm going. If I'm going ... Gary (Cig1) is going. If Gary's going ... uh ... hopefully others will join us as well!

No worries - at this rate, I officially have the slowest car, you with your ITB's and all. Unless I get my turbo project finished before May... Some of the SD guys have been checking in via PM - this is going to be a blast! Bullfighter, where you at? The Syndicate needs to represent!

Once the details are firmed up I will be posting a link to this in the Nevada section. We have enjoyed the company of fellow Vegas F-chatters on previous runs!

I have secured a block of 20 rooms at the Platinum Hotel which is one block east of the Las Vegas Strip and a short walk to the Bellagio, Caesar's Palace and Bally's casinos. They will accomodate our parking requirements with a roped-off secure parking area within their parking structure. They feature 910 sq. ft. suites, spa, indoor & outdoor pools and a fitness center. Hotels.com, which rates the hotel 4 stars, lists the cheapest available rate at $224.40/night for that weekend. Our group rate will be $169.00/night. Note that this is a non-smoking and non-gaming hotel.

Rooms will be on a first-come first-served basis. To reserve your room at this rate for our run, I will need the following information sent via PM (or PM me for my email address if you prefer to send it that way): Name, single king or double queen beds, credit card, expiry date, billing address and if you plan on staying 2 or 3 nights (nights of May 16th & 17th or 16th, 17th and 18th). The CC is to guarantee your room - the hotel will charge one night to your credit card if you fail to show. If you reserve a room and later need to cancel, please let me know (don't call the hotel directly) as they will drop the room from our block at this rate.

Save the weekend on your calendars and get ready for a fun weekend

Can we call the hotel directly with our cc info and tell them we're with the Ferrari group? Thanks for doing all the leg work.

BTW, I guess the Monte Carlo is out?

No problem - I've asked them to switch it from a rooming list to call-in. I will have the reservation number to call in when I get the contract finalized early next week. The Monte Carlo is within stumbling distance

The Monte Carlo is a hot hotel as we speak. This picture was stolen from another thread from today.

So hard to keep up with the latest "hot spots" in Vegas - no injuries reported, thank goodness!

Good to hear no injuries. I grew up in Vegas, and still remember being on the playground, watching the smoke from the MGM Grand fire, in the early 80's. People were not so lucky back then.

Darrell.
