Aftet the Espadhemi now the Espadduuuh!

Just thought I'd give everybody a heart attack on a Sunday morning: I took these shots at one of those lousy Kruse auctions in the early 1990's 92, 93 or so, at the Miami Beach convention center: yes it is the can opened Espada!

I really apologize for ruining your day but I had to take revenge for having to look at the Hemi Espada monstrosity above: I feel better now;-)

Now here is something to wash your eyes after the horror show: this is a period shot, but it is not in Sant'Agata, not sure what the story is, perhaps it was the morning of some media event...All I know is I got this photo at Retromobile about 25 years ago and it was an older photo then.

Not sure about Don Johnson and the photo was an older photo already then -in contrast and reference to photos then new- I suppose I was speaking Brit English rather than American and had not had enough coffee yet:-)

Not sure if I see much Espada there (pretty successfully changed the look).

The mother of my girl friend told me that story:

She bought a new Espada in the early 70ies by Hubert Hahne. After driving a while without problems the car refused to start. The car stayed in her garage and she took her Ferrari BB or Porsche instead (the former also suffered many problems then!). After some months she contacted the Hahne workshop but nobody from them showed up...(distance between both locations were about 35 miles!).

She wanted to get the car repaired and back on the roads and so decided to hire a tranporter who took the car up to drive it to St`Agatha (there were no Lamborghini workshops then in Germany at that time!). She followed the truck with her Porsche. After about 250 miles in very bad weather, the driver of the truck suddenly stopped next to the Autobahn and told her that he become very tired and needs some sleep. The mother of my girlfriend became upset and she wanted to be back home asap due to business appointments and so she didn`t want to waste any time. To make a long story short: she sat behind the wheel of the truck and drove this big, heavy thing all the long way thru heavy rain and snowstorms on the Alps down to Bella Italia with the sleeping driver on the co-seat!

She took the plane back to Germany (Valentino Balboni drove her to Bologna Airport in a Miura!!) and sold the Espada one year later. Now she drives McLaren F1, Porsche Turbo and Ferrari 430 "Scuderia".

True you had to know to recogniize an Espada underneath all that dubiously designed spider body. I recognized it back then because I had seen an article in (I believe) a Swedish magazine many years ago.
When I found these photos when going through my boxes it took me a minute to realize what it was.

I think you are correct aboiut the pattern but I suspect those are not original materials.

I think that Espada was in a Swedish mag. called Bilsport and as i can remamber it was built in Norway. Maybe there are some Norwegians here that have some more info on that "thing".
