i have been a subscriber to autoweek going on 30 years, maybe longer.

in the last couple years, it seems like they are having a hard time "filling" the mag with articles. the editorials are a complete joke and worthless.

i did love the ferrari recreation piece. not enough depth though.

Yes, what is it with, after 30+ years of Ferrari look-alike kit cars, all of a sudden there is a news media campaign calling them "counterfeit"?

Ferrari legal department are bored of going after web sites and have nothing better to do? Using the media to try and change the general public's mindset on something that has been around forever?

Perhaps we should direct the author to the 'kitcar thread'.

Now there would be some cases worthy of prosecution!! (perhaps merely on the grounds of good taste!)

One of the worst articles I've ever seen in Autoweek. After reading the blurb on the cover I was fully expecting to see
an exact reproduction of a P4 commissioned by some Chinese billionaire.

I notice that Replica Paul has added comments to the article, explaining that this car is nothing to do with Thailand, China or any other fakery. It's a Noble replica - no more, no less.
Autoweek should be ashamed of themselves for publishing this trash.

The article is also wrong about there being three P 4's. Three P 4's were made by Ferrari but only one (0856) exists today.
    0858 and 0860 were converted by Ferrari to 350 Can Am's. Today 0858 remains a 350 Can Am and 0860 is a 350 Can Am with a replica P 4 body.

    Jim.

Can you tell me the extent of the conversion of 0860 (Mr Bardinon's car I believe) to Can Am and why that does not make it a P4 anymore? Is-it because of the replica body or more extensive changes were made to the chassis, engines etc?

    Thanks!

This whole thread is ‘Déjà vu’.

Try reading this earlier thread (in this section): http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=187683&page=4

From the bottom of page 3, and especially page 4 onwards. Lots of other useful contributions from Replica Paul there.

Huet's book has translations of the technical data sheets which delineate the differences between a P4 and a 350 Can Am. Basically Ferrari converted P4 0860 into 350 Can Am 0860 and raced it in the Can Am series. The most obvious changes are increasing the engines displacement and a new body style along with wider wheels and tires but there are other differences as well. At some point Bardinon removed 0860's original 350 Can Am body and replaced it with a replica P4 body sourced through David Piper. David's 0900 is fitted with 0860's original P4 spyder body and 0858's spare 350 Can Am engine, spare gearbox, and other bits mounted on a replica P4 chassis built with Enzo's permission to P4 blueprints given to him by Enzo. David bought 0860's original P4 body from a junk yard in Modena where Ferrari had scrapped it.

Agree totally. Paul has always been totally forthright in describing what his car is and the implication that the owner's of Nobles for example are trying to pass their car off as real P4's is silly. Paul is paying homage to a car he loves not trying to deceive anyone as this article implies. (I realize that this article is not specifically about Paul and his car)

A lot of Work and Love went into Paul's car and he has always fully disclosed exactly what his car is and what it is not which is not always the case with "Real" Ferrari's sitting on the manicured Lawns.
