I attended the VIR Track Day today and wanted to post up some of my pictures. The event was absolutely great and there was a pretty good variety of cars. I rode a couple laps with John in his 360 and got some video, until we got black-flagged for not using a camera mount, :) .

    Ray,

Thanks for posting! The 599 is beautiful. So did the Scud go on the track or was it just spectating? I knew it was going to be there. But I didn't see it in Chris' (Maranelloboy05) pics.

Just curious. John/Ronnie it looked like there was a good turnout? I'm definitely down for next year!!

    Ray,

In your 3rd pic it's the red one next to the Porsche GT3. I was told that the one from the Classics on the James was supposed to go down there. Just curious if that indeed was him and if he got on the track?

That was a regular F430 coupe with a challenge grill and challenge wheels. I wish it had been a Scud.

No Scud from the Richmond Classics show. Great day for lots of track time - it was a pretty light crowd. Probably no more than 10 cars per class. Maybe I'll have mine there for the next one...

You know, the 599 in grey really looks good. Much better than red.

It was a great time. I feel bad for all of you that missed out. There were not very many people out which made it perfect for drivers.

I stand corrected. I was told that the owner of the Scud from the Classic may show up. Hopefully next year we can get a date that allows for more people to attend!! It really is a great course. Chris I enjoyed your video as well. Thanks for posting!

Thanks, I really want to get a better set-up but from what I have seen my camera doesn't do well under a lot of vibration, hence why we had to do handheld.

Not sure about the legality of it but I have had some friends build camera mounts from old lacrosse sticks and tripod mounts. The sticks stretched behind the head rests and had tripod mounts on them for the camera.

Here is a real primitive version of a homemade mount.

I looked into building one but I knew it was going to go into John's 360 and there really isn't a good place to mount it, the headrest wouldn't work and the only thing I could think of is using a suction cup mount on the rear window.

Yeah if its going into John's 360 I am not sure where it would SAFELY mount.

You could probably get some interesting action if you mounted one on his cooler from the night before.

I think you can do it on the headrest. It telescopes up pretty high, leaves about 3 or 4 inches of the rails exposed to attach some wing-nut, clamp type thing. Maybe I can try to find something and play with different options.

For some reason I didn't think the head rest was movable but now that I do I think I will try and build something like this, I found it on the 350z forums and all you have to do is drill some holes, I already have a tripod head.

By the way John using the footage you averaged about 78 mph on that first lap.

Don't extend/lengthen the arm too much, actually as little as possible because it will vibrate more and flex more.

Yes, thank you. It was not an aggressive lap. First lap was an out lap... actually pretty cold that morning... around 40 degrees, trying to heat the tires, lot of spins that day. Second lap we were black flagged for a hand held and just cruising.

O man! Awesome! I tried to contact someone about coming down there however i got no email in return. It wouldnt have mattered anyways. The engine of my track car is out and is being worked on. My dad also sold his race car last month.

I heard about someone taking delivery of a BRAND NEW 430. Anyone witness this? Apparently it was the only one in the country not pre ordered? That may be his GT3RS as i know he has one also.
