Nice article. However, what on earth is talking about regarding the 400? I though the 400 and 412 had rather similar interiors.

I wonder how the performance compares between the 412/400/365gt4? Is the 365 about the same weight as the 400s? How does the power and response of the webers compare to the FI?

The article clearly compares the 412 to a 400 not a 400i. Besides the fuel system difference the interior was much different in 400's and early 400i's (Series I). The older ones had the 3 AC vents on top of the dash and the center console was quite different and in wood not vinyl.

Here they are side by side - 365 GT4 & 412 (non standard wheel in 412). The basic architecture is the same, and it is strange Tony Dron makes a big deal about that because he does later refer to the controls and switchgear developments. He is a journalist I would trust when it comes to the overall impression.

Does anybody else have any articles? Would like to read them if you do. These are all I have.

Others here could get into more detail on this than I'm aware of, but the late 400i interior reworked design more closely matches the 412 than earlier 400i and 400 cars.

I have a few copies of this very issue around somewhere; always been a big 412 fan.

If I recall correctly, somewhere in the article the author mentions a wish list of Testarossa 4 valve heads on this engine to hop it up a bit, vs. the 412's 2 valve heads. Anyone know offhand if that'd be possible or not ?

There is a conversion being done in the 308 section that uses a 400 block and TR heads. Amazing what is involved!

Notice the running lights on & the clear turn signal lenses---this is what is described in the OM, & some have mentioned that this was a misprint in the manual. It must be a euro thing. This would explain the need for the little repeaters on the front-side bumpers.

This isn´t really about the articles per se, but the articles reminded me of it.
It seems to me that this and the 3x8 section have such gret atmospheres. Not to trash any of the other car sub-forums, but whenever I come in here there is always an interesting thread going on, not just the What Color Should I Spec My Wheels or The Sky Is Falling threads in other sections. It just seems like the 400/412 and 3x8 sections are really what this site is about - enjoying your Ferraris with like minded people.
By the way, I can´t wait till the day I can drive off in my 412.

That's why a lot of us have one of each! I spent 7 years doing a rolling resto on the 308, mostly by myself, with the help of this forum. I've started on the 400 now...
