Attached is a copy of the letter from the Lamborghini factory confirming that 4870 was build for the Shah of Iran.

Also, I've attached the build sheets for 4870 which not the "shah of Persia" and include the bench testing which shows the incredible power this engine was putting out.

I'm not able to transform these to Jpegs but maybe someone can help me.

John here are some historical images of the Shah, his family and various people he met, in no particular order. Id thought you'd enjoy them. They speak for themselves...

john,

i have seen your lovely miura many times at gary's. to me, it vies for the prettiest sports car on the planet honors and possibly only trumped by a proper stradale...a tipo 33 stradale (the only car befitting of that name). a wonderful machine john.

as a note, my girlfriend actually has a picture of your car on her myspace site entitled "what i want if i win the lottery!"

she clearly has great taste...a true keeper!!

best,

pcb

I also have a curious image somewhere of the Shah in 1975 at his Villa Suvretta in St Moritz getting out of his Lamborghini Espada, wearing a fur coat!

I have been told that the Queen Farrah was partial to Dark Blue and white (see her coronation robe), and the Shah ordered several of his important cars in Dark Blue and White interior. His special Maserati was made this way. 4870 was changed by him at Bertone to reflect these colors, and when he specified the SVJ it was originally speced as Dark blue and white. At the factory he had the SVJ repainted to dark red. I can only assume he did this because he decided to keep 4870.

Its impossible to underestimate the power this man held. Despite all his faults, the Shahs end of control marked a turning point if power and global security of our planet.

John: 4934 was originally liveried at Bertone as an SV in "Blu Ischia" with "Bianco". Obviously he already had a blue car (4870) hence the change to "Rosso Granada". BTW Blu Ischia is a light metallic blue per the one-off Miura Spyder. When 4934 was in Southern California, if you opened the passenger door you could still see the Blu Ischia in the door jamb.

BTW, the Shah never sold anything. But he did GIVE a few cars away!

these are great infos!
tks for sharing them

Maffeo, the man who sent the papers from factory, is a very kind guy and knows a LOT about all lamborghinis

he saw my car at the shop and he remembered the car at first glance :-o
he was so kind to send 2 pics of my roadster delivered in S.Agata by him and Di Capua to their first owners (after the factory itself)

Enjoying himself & relaxing... he taught the Queen to ride bikes with him. He was a respected pilot who could fly anything from Helicopter to fighter jets and often took the controls of the 747 that served as Iran's Air Force One as he found that relaxing!

John, you really must get this book. Its a nice portrait of the lives of the family... on the cover and at the controls of the jet is his son who now lives in the USA.

Great read! Interesting history, the last time I was in Iran, I was part of the Ill fated American hostage rescue mission after Khomeini overthrew the government, it was sad to see the demise of the Shah....
