Well, as the title suggests, I'm off on another GT4 project. While taking apart my shifter assembly, I decided to totally remove my center console with the intention of having it re-covered. So, today I took a drive a couple towns over (1.25hrs to be exact) to a shop recommended by a friend and fellow Ferrari owner. The shop specializes in airplane restorations as well as high end automotive work. My neighbor and fellow car nut is an airplane mechanic and highly recommended this guy as well.
We picked out some vinyl that is very close to the original vinyl on my car. Unfortunately, I forgot my camera to take pics, but we did discover that while the center console appears OEM, the doors have definetly been re-done more than once with 2 different tan vinyl's. This will all be corrected now with new vinyl. :) Should take about 2 weeks to have the center console and door panels completed. Later this year I'll pull out the trim pieces in the rear of the car and have him cover those as well, assuming I like his work. :)

Anyway, this is what my center console looks like now and what the inside of the doors look like now. Fun thing is that it won't stop me from driving!

Wow Jim, you're making me feel bad (and lazy) that I haven't been able to find the time to get my GT4 back on the road. (Heck, I haven't even washed it since I bought it!) At least I changed the oil this weekend in the 328.

I was lazy as h*ll over the winter. I really should've had this done by now, but I blew off most everything I wanted to do because it was soooo cold. Now I have to get moving becasue I want to drive. This weekend will be an oil change plus, if I can get on a buddy's lift, then I'm going to drop the trans pan and have a look around at 5th gear. It never ends, but its fun as can be!!!

    Jim,
I have been pricing out the cost of a complete interoir redo. Everything but the dash. I would be interested on the cost you got for the doors and the center console.
Your a great and a helpful guy Jim, but everytime I see your name on a thread I know I am gong to feel like a slacker.
    Have a Great weekend. -Skip

Jim i've seen many threads on here asking for tips to remove the armrest from the door panels without responses. Any explaination on how to remove would be appreciated. I'm wanting to have mine redone but don't know how to get them off or how to get 'em back on without taking the entire door panel off too.

thanks..looking forward to the end result of your project.

    Hey Jim,

This is a GREAT time to rebuild all the window mechanisms. I'm facing the same thing on my GTB. I have to pull the door panels off anyway and one window has slipped it cable - so why not do it all?! The other fun thing would be to get some paint or thin undercoat spray on the inside of the door. And then make up new plastic moisture guards. Hell, it never ends. Isn't that wonderful?!

    best, Rick

The way that my door pockets are attached to the panels is that they have threaded studs that go through holes in the panels and are bolted on the inside of the door panel, so you *have* to remove the door panel to get the pocket/armrest off.
I would assume (though not much can really be *assumed* with a handbuilt car) that the 308's with the long armrests are constructed the same way.
I'll post pics when I can.

    Rick,

I thought about that, but my mechanisms work so well now that I have to "fix what ain't broke" at this point.
Never know what bug might strike me though!

Well, I finally got the interior back from the upholstry guy last week. He did a magnificent job! Last weekend I was able to fit the door panels and have driven with them in place. Until last night, I was driving without a center console in place. Well that's all changed now. Last night and tonight I replaced my center console. Those pics are forthcoming as I still have to put my seats back in and vacuum the interior. For now, enjoy a pic of my passenger door, which was the worst of the two panels by far. (I'll post better pics tomorrow.)

Well, my plan was to re-do the interior of the GT4. The vinyl is really dirty and the seats are in need of a re-dye or re-do. Well last spring I set out to re-cover the center console and the door panels. The next step is to do the rest of the vinyl and finish up with the leather 1 year from now.
Today, I took out the interior pieces. For the first time, I found evidence of not only my original color (Dino Metallico Blu), but I also found remnants of my original interior carpet color. (Blue).

A couple interesting finds.....I have the original hoses it appears and at some point, a little critter took up residence. Most likely with a previous owner. :)
Probablly most interesting, all interior pieces are marked with #54.
    See pics and enjoy.....

In the last picture (above), that rivet and the one above it needed to come out as they hold that lower rear interior trim piece in place.
I'll drop off the pieces next week. Not sure how long it will take. More to come.

    Looking good Jim!

I've a question because who ever re-did the interior of my car did everything in leather, the door panels, the center console, the pillars, rear deck... and I was wondering were all these surfaces vinyl from the factory? I see your front pillars are black, is this also original? Another question, not to hijack your post, but my roof liner is crema, does this mean my original interior was crema also? Thanks

VERY NICE that your interior is leather!!! Ferrari did use a very high quality vinyl throughout according to my upholstry guy.

The Vinyl did come from the factory. My dash and A-Pillars are black vinyl and the rest of the interior is cream colored. The seats did come from the factory in leather AFAIK. There are some GT4's that came from the factory with Suede seats and vinyl everything else.

I'd bet that your OE interior was Crema. The roof liner is something that not often gets done on a re-do because its expensive and hard to re-install. Mine was soiled pretty heavily so I took it down.

To find your original interior color, you can send a request to Ferrari through their website (as a registered owner) to get a certificate of the original colors done by the factory. It was free when I did it a few years ago.

My interior is Beige (code 3234) however the roof liner is Crema. So a different color roof liner to interior is normal AFAIK.

Looking good Jim! Nothing like getting the interior sorted for the next 35 years of enjoyment!

Any more updates on your project? I have the 1975, 308 GT4, and about to redo the interior. I will be posting pics as well. By the way, you're doing a great job!

    Sinbad,

Thanks for calling me out! We put our house up for sale 2 weeks ago and my car is at a friends 'toy shed' until we get an offer. SO......that means the interior is on hold for the moment. :( I'm hoping to get over to his place soon to get the interior installed. I'll be sure to post pictures.

    Cool Jim!

Just in case if you are shopping for leather for your car, I bought some for mine from these guys on ebay: http://stores.ebay.com/Kyson-Leather They will even send you swatches for whatever hides you request. The quality is unbelivable, and the smell... man.
