I have a '79 308 and I need to replace the radiator foam which isnt there in an effort to lower the temperature of the car. T Rutland is out of the replacement kit. I have been told that I can do this myself by buying the foam at a hardware store or home depot. Could someone post pics of the installed foam?

    Thanks in advance,

    Scott

Home depot has the stuff. It is AC foam insulation. I believe it is either 1 1/2" or 2" square. Cheap.

Go to Home Depot, but replacing it won't make that big of a difference.

Home Depot offers some "open cell" stripping, but I have fabricated mine from a HVAC product called Armorflex, it will not absorb water and is skinned on one side......from Johnstone supply, they cover chillers and other items with it to prevent "sweating" in humid environments.....

I disagree with Dr. Tommy, if you do both hood strips the sides and bottom of the radiator and even the odd shaped corner blocks, you are sealing the airflow thru the rad and away from the passenger compartment big time.....

It helped in my car. Every little piece of the cooling system adds something. Changing one won't do it but together the car starts to operate as new again.

Two biggest elements for me were: rodding the radiator after which the car only overheated while stopped in traffic...and replacing ALL of the foam strips which route the air flow behind the radiator, I can now stop in traffic without worry.
