Several people suggested I start a new thread here for my new "Enzo" garage. That is, a garage that will match the special look and feeling of the Enzo and some other cars.

We recently bought an old Spanish Colonial house with a smaller attached 3-car garage with 10' doors. But we want to store 5 cars in it without changing the exterior appearance of the house. So we starting a major re-model project. I will document as we go. Requirements are:

    1. Do not change the exterior appearance of the house.
    2. The interior design must match the interior design of the house (i.e., Spanish Colonial). That is, more house-like and less garage-like.
    3. You can still do a complete service on any car with easy clean-up.
    4. Still maintain some of the attic for storage (there is a large attic above the current ceiling).
    5. Design must meet the newest local building codes, especially for fire and earthquake.
    6. Very easy for cars to enter and exit.
    7. People will want to hang out in the garage!

    Here is the before shot...

Love that Bill. There is nothing better than keeping the cars at home where you & the family have immediate access to them. Good luck with the project.

We needed to cut the slab and extend the existing 30 year old brick past the doors to keep the new floor out of the sun and water. We'll acid-wash everything when done so it all matches. The guys did a great job matching the old brick and grout.

We'll do a tile wainscoat for style and it's easy to clean for a garage. But it needs to look old, so we'll probably use these hand-made fired tiles.

Thanks. Nice job! We'll be using low-clearance 4-pole lifts custom built by Bendpak with no labels and Black Gray RAL #7021 powder coat. We made them wider so the columns will be flush with the 10' garage door openings. We looked into other lifts - like single pole - but Bendpak suggested the 4-pole lifts for earthquake-prone areas. Also we need to work under the cars, so we didn't want to enclose the area between the wheels.

Those look very good. You may want to move your garage door opening motors to the side
to gain more roof height. You may also want light weight removable drip pans in the center of the platforms as even new cars can drip.

    :)

Air filtration is a good idea. It's a bit scary what those filters look like after a few months.

Hopefully my cars are not drippers!

We're working on hiding the garage door opener motors, tracks, and doors themselves in the wall and ceiling. I'd like the doors to disappear when they are raised. Then we only need to worry about them looking good when they're down. They're nice mahogany doors, so it's really the hardware that's a little ugly. Maybe we can make them look like the wall when they are down.

Nice idea! Like a telescopic door?

We have the high ceiling, so the door will follow the ceiling contour on a curved track. It will be hidden (hopefully) behind the plaster. So we need to keep a low profile.

We can't hide the door on the low-ceiling bay because that would require a large structural modification to open a slot through the ceiling joists.

In the other thread you said you got those somewhere around Modena. May I ask you where?
