Geneva Leakage: Ferrari 599 Hybrid caught on stage snippet: "...The shots [more at link] appear to have been taken from the show stand, so there's no hard information to go off of yet. What we do know is that Ferrari will employ a version of its Kinetic Energy Recovery System (KERS) that originally debuted during the 2009 Formula 1 season on the 599. The system captures energy normally lost to the flywheel under braking, sending a boost of energy to the wheels when the driver hits a steering wheel-mounted button..." I personally think it is more a technical show-case of what Ferrari can do with hybrid energy. The use of the hybrid energy with KERS and a button for extra boost isn't something that would reduce the current CO2 emissions of de 599 in general. Perhaps they can use the hybrid technology in reducing the CO2 emissions when driving though town, the fuel consumption of any Ferrari in town-traffic can be significantly reduced without tampering with the soul of the engine noise when you push the pedal.
Ferrari CEO Amedeo Felisa: "...He went on to reveal that the 599 Hybrid set for next months 2010 Geneva Motor Show isnt destined for production...Felisa said early hybrid prototypes are already showing improvements in fuel economy of more than 25% but stressed that the technology is just not ready for production and likely wont be for another five years..." source: http://www.motorauthority.com/blog/1042296_ferrari-ceo-lays-out-future-plans-confirms-599-gto-and-enzo-replacement
Verde Ithaca....? come on Ferrari... and F40/Enzo on the wall...? come on... stop selling in that way... same story with the 599GTO... GTO??????? omologata for what...? omologata one Ferrari that has not been built ror Racing...? are you serious....? nevertheless the idea of reducing consuption is correct but selling our historh and heritage nominating a Pak/80bhp/better brakes: GTO is pure marketing stupidity...
of course!!! I have no doubt about this... very close friend of mine is giving his 599 GTB for the ''GTO''... dows anybody expect a hybrid Ferrari on the roads before 2013?
It's a hybrid so It'll still have the v12. It's just a v12 with the addition of electric motors, so no, it should still have that v12 wail.
I would think most of that fuel efficiency gain would come from stop-start, in city driving. And all that really requires is a few modifications to the electronics, and a bigger battery.
Ferrari is preparing for what will be expected in the future, it's quite obviously in the first few stages, it'll be cool to see what comes of this

In engineering terms, this is not exactly cutting edge... If Ferrari think this is innovative, then they clearly haven't been doing much research. By comparison, here is what the competition are up to: http://www.pistonheads.com/news/default.asp?storyId=21587
Man, you aren't kidding. That's a beautiful machine, and incredibly efficient too. I like that some of these cars aren't going to be giving up performance in the migration to cleanliness.
