That's a 2400, right? If I remember correctly, they only made like 150 of them or so. I was really considering buying one a few years ago. So many are rusted or were abused. Nothing sounds like a Dino. NOTHING.
yes that is a 2400, at least it has 2400 trim on it and 424 were made. Many (too many) have been sacrificed for their motor. Of course the 2.0's are the best
from everything I've read and seen the 2000 was the one to have but I'm wondering if Jim G is getting the Bertone coupe as well to have the matched pair ?
The 2.0L had the knock-offs like the 206 Dino, the 2.4 Fiat like the F-car Dino had bolt on wheels. ASFAIK there were fewer 2.0 vs. 2.4 Fiat Dinos. I think the 150 number you mention refers to the 206 GT Dino (Ferrari).
Jim, Congratulations on the save return home of another "child"... She looks great! More detailed pictures of interior and enginebay are welcome! Maarten
I only knew it because I had to research this for my book: 1) The total 2L Spider buildbetween 1967 and 68 was 1133, but deviated in two series: a)first 2L series main difference is a silver (Aluminum) dashboard panels and a black steering wheel, 500 were made. Tthe change from knock-offs to bolt on happens during this first series, the last 283 Spider had allready bolt on wheels. b)second 2L series had wooden dashboard panels and steering wheel, 633 were made. Invisble but important change was the bucket tappet, the part for adjusting the valve clearance moved from below to on top of it. 2) From the 2,4L Spider were 425 produced, interieur like second series 2L Spider. Main difference beside the engine is the independend rear suspension. Both versions have pro´s and con´s, the 2L are lighter and more to the 206 race car, the 2,4L have more torque and the better suspensions. So there is no real favourite. Nicolai
Of course not, I meant the character of the engine. It really needs and wants high rev´s. Best wishes Nicolai
I think that's why I always wanted one. I miss my old 246 dino but I don't want the headaches, I don't want to worry about "mileage" or owning or worrying about driving a classic with nut cases on the roads, and I don't want the cabin heat. But, I love the engine and the looks of both of these. The fact that it's a Fiat makes it a bit of a bargin, athough you can get a really nice 328 for the price of one now adays. That's a tough decision to make. I'm so glad to see one in top condition. It's been a very under appreciated car for way too long. Thanks for posting it!!! I'd love to see more pics.
yes, that Yellow does make it stand out but this car needs very little to stand out anyway. Having driven both the 2.4 and 2.0's I really find very little difference, I like the 2.0 because its what is in my garage. The 2.4's have independent rear suspension which people say really makes it handle much better then the 2.0, but I did not see a great difference. There is a little more power in the 2.4 but not as much as you would think because of the weight difference and at parking lot speeds that extra weight gives you a workout as you steer the car. I do think the 2.0 loves to rev even more than the 2.4. A advantage of the 2.4 is the readily available parts for the motor, all other parts are easier to find for the 2.0 since more were made, either way bring your checkbook. I like them both and I am happy to have my 2.0 but I am very sure I would be just as happy with a 2.4. Ok, talked me into it, going for a drive.
Jim- She is a real beauty and the Giallo paint looks perfect. I loved my 2.4 liter coupe. She drove like a little Daytona, so yours probably drives like a little Daytona Spider. My AEC was missing, so I put an early MSD unit on it and the engine was as smooth as silk. You should consider a coupe stablemate. The engine was not an SP type, the whoke series of 2 liter cars were homologation specials for an F2 engine. Taz Terry Phillips
Before I bought my first 246 GT, I lusted after a FIAT Dino spyder. I still think it's one of the finest open cars around, and really like the looks of your gorgeous yellow example. Happy driving, Jim! Fred
