i rarely criticize goods like this, but i am just fed up. some of you may remember that i bought a set of image wheels for the bbi 2 years ago. when they arrived, i discovered that they were completely incorrect for the car, and were in fact the right dimensions for a testarossa. i told image about it, they denied, but agreed to take them back and rework them .... note NOT exchange them, but rework them, and the shipping cost was for me from switzerland to the uk. then they came back, and we discovered that the central hole where the hub for the splines is placed, was too large by about 6 mil in diameter. we had to arrange to put shims in. then we discovered that the offset was incorrect for the bbi, so they rubbed in numerous places, and had to be sent back to image again, who denied all wrongdoing. then they sent them back. we have now found that with their fix of the offset, the center piece hole depth is too large by 11 mil - in other words, they do not allow enough thread depth to effectively tighten the spinners on. forget sending them back to image at my cost yet again. so i called paul hill at hill engineering, and we think we have come up with a solution by manufacturing 4 new exterior hub bolts that will have collars that are 11 mil shorter. i have spoken to the people at image repeatedly, and they constantly deny that there is a problem and constantly claim that their wheels should just fit right on without issues....well they dont, and they dont want to know about it. i have never had such shoddy product being touted as made specifically for ferrari and this model in particular. it was faulty from start to finish, and i can only warn anybody who was thinking of buying a set from them to NOT do it. they either have no idea what they are doing, or they botched my set from the start. but in any case i have had to rebuild them myself over 2 years and considerable hassle and expense. stay away.
Good to know! I recall when you ordered them! Man, what a hassle.....GOOD on Hill Engineering for help in sorting it. Makes you miss Boyd Coddington, eh?
Moorespeed in Austin Texas updated a BBi for modern wheels and rubber....IIRC, they had new hubs made, to convert it to a conventional 5 bolt mounting pattern. While maybe further "around the block" than you initially planned, it took less than two years, I'd wager!!! I'd hate to lose the esoteric 'knock off" feature myself, so I'm GLAD you finally sorted a solution! Drive carefully, and don't BEND one of them!!!
Good day Ross, Yikes, what a major pain... I wonder if yours were the first set they made? I say this as 412MonzaIndy ordered a set from them for his BB and they were fine (I am assuming, as I have not seen any post to the contrary): http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=282304 That being said his car is a BB and not a BBi like yours... I am curious if there are any differences in the offsets, etc on the BBi's as compared to the BB's...I say this as BBi's use TRX's and so the factory rims are different on the BB and BBi's... Maybe this is what messed them up? Regardless, they really should have acted differently and even had you take a number of measurements when you first contacted them with a problem. I do hope it all works out! Cheers, Sam
i ordered from image based on the good experiences of another fchatter. it was discussed in some long thread a few years ago, and somebody had had a good experience with image. image were very nice at first, but after things started to go wrong they didnt want to know anymore. and i didnt even tell you about the hassles i had with customs - trying to convince them it was the same set of wheels going in and out 3 times !!! had a year long argument with them over 500 chf. talked again with paul hill and we measured everything up, and determined that the outer hub is the same size as on the daytona, and he has the factory measurements for that and will just make me a new set, but with a collar 11 mil shorter.
I was just ready to get wheels for my TR from Image............Thanks! I read another thread were Image wheels where installed on a similar car and they had nothing but good things to say about the wheels. Should I stay away!
Compomotive have lots of experience on wheels for the Boxer, a little more expensive than Image, but they are a long established highly respected company, and they will also make the TS style wheel with the bolts on the inside if you prefer a cleaner look. www.comp.co.uk
Lucky or unlucky...if any company gives customer service like that I would not even call them...unless you want some pain..take Ross's advise
sorry to read of your troubles. they will get no business from me. Compomotive made me a stunning set of a wheels for one of my Lamborghini's a few years ago with no issues at all.
