While checking the dynamic ignition advance I took the opportunity to compare the Dino tachometer RPM reading with the Snapon digital timing light. Although both take the same trigger, the Dino tacho must have a mechanical component. They look to be in close agreement with each other. Perhaps there is a slight gradient difference, but nothing to worry about.

    Kevin,

i checked mine with a Tek CFG280 on the workbench, quite precise below 6K RPM but after that the Veglia displayed the RPM 10% lower than the actual value - oops. I don't have the special tools to refit/crimp back on the bezel so i didnt do a full calibration, just have to keep this in mind when getting near the red line.

The tach needle sits on a spindle which has a spiral retaining spring. If the oil gets sticky you might see the symptoms you have described. You tach's curve looks quite good though.

so an indicated 7800 rpm is really close to 8500 rpm?

Exactly, but thats just what i have measured. Don't think that this is a general behaviour of old Veglia tachs.

    Are there internal calibration pots?
