After reading the article in EVO this month (Ferrari vs. Porsche), my curiosity has been piqued by the Competizione. Is anyone here an owner? Are there a decent number of these now in the US (I only know of 1 stateside example)? Any photos or experience would be greatly appreciated!

Finally, any idea where I could find a wrecked one so I can barter for the carbon fiber doors??!

    :)

I read that same article this past weekend, and was surprised to learn it was using a shaft instead of cables. I would love to see how they set that up.

I thought the Ferrari 348 GT Michelotto Competizione was running a 6spd early version of the 355 gearbox...please clarify.

I imported one of these to Australia from the UK last year for my boss. being the only ferrari Ive ever driven I have to say its pretty mind blowing!
I drove an e46 M3 right before the GTC on a recent track day and it made the M3 feel like a bus.
Its got to be one of the most under-rated Ferraris, and seems to be partly tarred with the early 348 reputation, and partly just completely impossible to find any good info on (apart from www.348gtc.com)
we recently had a photoshoot with it down under, look here if youre interested: http://www.celsydney.com/cars/photoshoot-ferrari-348-gt-competizione-in-adelaide.php

    NICE!

Pap you have a homework assignment. We need pics of how the shaft was put in the GTC. I'm guessing they moved the alternator to the other side, like on the 355. But we need PICS!

That is unless powderbomber can hook up up with the pics. :D

yeah I reckon its pretty special :)
Ive got a few interior pics - none of the shaft/cable setup though, that was the first I had heard of that in that article too. The car is currently in the workshop (with a miura, diablo, stratos, 2x daytonas and other assorted ferraris/alfas!) but Ill investigate it further when its back in the next week or two.

    Great pics of the GTC.

These cars only had the standard mechanics from the GTB, so it will still be a cable shift!!

    Regards,
    Phil.

Thanks for the site and the pics. That thing is BAD ASS!!!

Organiser -- so the mention of a shaft-actuated gearbox in the EVO article is incorrect?

    Oh, poop.

    Hi Chupacabra,

I have not read the Evo article so I`m not sure which cars they are talking about?

My comment was made regarding the 50+ ? road cars (such as the one now in Australia above) made to celebrate the race cars winning the Italian Supercar Championship, etc, these are based on the GTB model. The only mechanical changes made to the engine were the exhaust manifolds, none to the gearbox!!

The Michelotto race cars may have had some changes to the gearbox?

    Regards,
    Phil.

However pics of that car with no engine shot is like a Playboy centerfold with all her clothes on. ;)

    Thanks Phil!

The EVO article is talking about the same cars we are, but mentioned that the shift feel should be improved over a "vanilla" 348 because of the absence of cables. I am admittedly a little skeptical as what you said makes perfect sense, but one can hope, right? :) Not that I have any chance of procuring or even driving one of these in the near future, but it sure would make a cool stable mate for mine!

    John O Quinn had one.....

Ferrari of Atlanta had one for years asking $165K

O Quinns went for $70K, an unraced clean example......

    They are quite rare.....

I find it interesting that UK values are much higher for the Porsche 964RS than the Ferrari 348GTC, given the relative rarity of the Italian car. The GTC in the article was offered for sale at GBP45k, while a quick search on pistonheads shows asking prices for 964RS range from GBP50k-100k.

Theyre rippers arent they. Theyre speedline wheels specific to the 348gtc and i beleive a japanese special edition of the 512tr but thats it. Theyre pretty rare though last time i checked it looks like you can get a set from ricambi for around US$15k.
I have the ferrari part nos somewhere if anyone wants them.

There are a fair few around if you spend a few minutes on Google.

Managed to find seven that were either currently for sale, or had been for sale recently and the listing was still up.

Managed to find them for sale in the UK, Belgium, France and one in the US that has been turned into a racing version.

Lovely looking cars when stock standard, any owners on here?
