Hi all--I am looking at a 348SS tB that has some cracking as the thread title describes. This thread

    www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=180568

suggests that it happens on many 348's and 355's. For those that own a 348, would finding this on a potential car for purchase make you look elsewhere, make you think twice, or would you just ignore it as "one of those things"?

    Thanks.

Depends on how you roll. A little butt crack may or may not be a problem.

For me, its a deal breaker. :)

Just kidding. My ts has no cracking. I'd probably skip one with cracks, simply because its a buyers market.

I don't think I saw a car yet that either did not show the cracking or had it repaired. I wouldn't sweat it, assuming it's just the surface cracks. Certainly deeper ones might be an issue. I have actually seen some cars where the crack was repaired using black silicone like in the 308's.

I've heard it's more common on TB's than TS's. I've not seen a cracked one in person.

Have to ask Ingenere to be 100%, but I'm pretty sure that's the case with mine...I have black silicone seals around the bottom of the buttresses...don't think I remember seeing those on other 348s. Also, the buttresses and the top arch look to have been repainted.

All in all, I'd say no big deal. Looks like an easy fix.

I have those cracks on both sides. Had them painted over.... cracked again within 2 years.

I treat it like a beauty wrinkle now... :)

mine had it on one side, it's a crack in the adhesive bead that runs along the seam between the fender and the pillar (it's not a crack in the metal). I left it alone for 3 yrs...but all fixed now :)

My car doesn't have this issue, and the few other TB's I have seen didn't have this issue visible. I guess they could have had it fixed. Dunno :)

Does anyone have a pic of this?
PAP? Go put some clothes on and go to your car and take a pic!

Does PAP have to be told to put clothes on if you ask him to do something?

What for?? Only gunna crack again. :(:(

No point spending $1000 everytime to paint that lhr quarter panel when that paint cracks. :p:p

Ill leave it until I fully respray the car one day. :D:D

    :eek::eek:

    Makes sense. :):)

The GTS would flex a lot more than a GTB. So it would transfer less flex down to the buttress area. :):)

So the GTS wouldnt be as prone to cracking the paint in that area IMO. :):)

*Maybe* the guys who track their GTS's HARD..........may have cracks in that area. Would be nice to know. :):)

Because washing the car isnt/doesnt cost me $1000 everytime.:eek:

Also, paint is ALL original except the lower left section of the front bar. Besides a few stone chips here and there, the paint is immaculate. :):)

So I dont *really* want to have it repaired and have the paint blended in to match. My friend is the best spray painter in town, he can do it like he did the front lower bar, but I may as well leave it and respray the car one day so it will all be like new again. :D:D

The 2 owners before me must have been REALLY careful to not have put a scratch/chip on my car in 34,000 km's. Ive driven around 7000 km now and have 10 stone chips and a cracked lhr buttress.:eek:

My car, a 91 TS, had a very small crack just visible on one side only (you had to know it was there) when I bought her from Talacrest in 1992. Lived with it for a few years then had it put right when other areas were addressed. Work done by Alsa Automotive (UK metal magician!)

Seen this on several TB's. My TS doesn't have one (yet) at 42,000 miles.
