I've been looking into the Scud prices lately as I am considering buying a Scud. Seems many can be had in the very low $200k range and that's on cars with a sticker over $300k just a year ago. Here is a prime example. http://www.lfsc.com/2009-ferrari-430-scuderia--c-251.htm This example gives us an almost 40% depreciation in just one year.

Is it the 458 that did them in or is it the general state of economy? I am leaning towards the 458 as the F430s did not drop as much proportionally speaking... 09 F430 coupes seem to be about 20% off their sticker.

What does the future hold for the Scud then? Since the rather steep and fast depreciation already, will they hold value better in the years to come? Will they depreciate even further below the 50% in just a few more years? A $300k+ car for $150k in two more years? I am leaning towards prices stabilizing on the Scuds rather than plunging that much further. What are your thoughts?

Yes, i dont think price will continue to drop as fast as they have this past year. One reason why it dropped faster than F430s may be because the Scud doesnt appeal to as broad an audience as a regular 430?

For less than $200k, the Scud is an amazing machine.

In my area, there are a lot of Scuds consigned at the dealers. I believe current Scud owners who want to upgrade to the 458 have found it difficult to trade in their cars unless they're willing to take a steep loss. Such is the nature of depreciation. On the supply side, lots of these consigned cars have sat for months which would appear they're overpriced. On the demand side, the economy has a negative effect to Scud prices. There are fewer qualified buyers for these cars. Ferrari will build as many 458 as they're able to sell. I see it as a vicious cycle. Winter is also a factor.

I would think the sconomy and the 458 have the most to do with it. This is the time to buy the car because in 5 years plus I dont think the car will drop lower than 150-175k. It will be like the 360 Challenge, which has actually recently moved up in value, and stablize/increas after the next few years if I had to guess. I am no expert but this is what I see happening with the market. To me it is easily the best car for under 200k available. Problem is I dont have 200k LOL.

Prices will continue to fall. Those that are above 200k right now are overpriced, IMO. Certainly at some point they will stabilize. Anyone want to guess what 2009's will be in February? ;)

Last month I sold my 2008 Scuderia for $205K (MSRP $299K) to a private party. And I felt lucky to get it. Dealer offered me $185K to buy my car outright. I was not interested in trading it in on a 458. Trade-in price was $192K. 7 months ago my car was worth $225K on trade for a 458. Scuderia prices are all over the place at different dealers. I've seen as much as $50K difference for a 2009. Prices will continue to fall. I'm waiting to see the new McLaren before deciding what my next car will be.

Lake Forest also sold a 1500 mile red Scud (08) for $199k a month ago. This one - being a 09 - seems well priced.

I've walked into 2 Fcar dealers in my area and their inventory of available cars (floor plan and consigned cars) are not fully reflected on their websites. This is true of other models including the Scuderia.

Scud and 16M are sinking like stones in a pond.

Strange, as I thought the 430 to be a pig and the scud to be almost as much fun as my cgt. It's a brilliant car and at the price of a 997 TTS a true bargain.

Disclosure: I own a cgt, a 16m, a 993TT and a 997TTS cab. The only one that keeps its value is the 993. With the cgt a close second.

    Hi Jeffery,

It's time for you to get a Scud now since you don't have a CS anymore.

My gut is they made a lot of scuds and MSRP on them was very stiff to say the least. There were quite a few new ones sitting on dealers' floors at the end. I'd bet they made far fewer Stradales. MSRP on 458s is less than scuds so basic economics spelled big depreciation for scuds. Personally I think Ferrari made a fortune on them considering they were just tweaked a little and then interiors removed. I'm quite sure a 458 costs more to build and sells for less (new). Nevertheless, scuds should always be worth more than all the coupes and probably spiders as well but it will take a while for the market to absorb the current glut.

The big surprise for me is that scuds and Calis are basically priced the same right now. I think that will change.

Happened by Ferrari of Washington today to steal a cup of coffee and get out of the rain, and they had four scuds, more representation than any other model, not a price on any of them. I ended up asking my sales guy to get me in line for the wait list on a 458 spider. I like deals. It blows my mind that I'm not just licking my chops waiting for these cars to drop for another year and then pouncing. This is fun to listen to. But at the end of the day, I'm pretty sure I'm skipping the 430 lineup. Just doesn't do much for me over the 360.

Dave your MSRP thoughts are spot on. I wasn't able to tell, which are you suggesting will go down in price at a faster pace?
Not far behind is the 599, a 'high-mile' example is in the scud ballpark. Can this be a comparison as well?

Yes, Jamie, I am happy to keep my 430 spider which doesn't drop too much (yet) ; may be now it is time for me to trade my F430 spider to a scud or 16M. Hadn't seen you much in the FCA events this year. Look forward to seeing you next season.

I would think that a lot of folks upgrading right away to a 458 are those who have Scuds, which caused a quick supply increase of Scuds, coupled with the economy to keep demand down. In comparison, as it's been mentioned elseware on Fchat a lot recently, I too think that the base F430's are actualy slightly more expensive than they were a year ago. I'm not quite able to explain that one, as just about every other "production" exotic took some pretty serious deprecition (Aston's, Audi R8, Lambo Gallardos, ect).

As for Lake Forest Sports Cars, I just want to say that if you are in the market for an exotic, go there and see them! I was just absolutely blown away by thier customer service last year when I was there looking for my first exotic. I'm in my mid twenties and from Columbus, OH, and getting MAG to let me sit in a car to see if I'll fit (I'm 6'6'' tall), let alone start it is like pulling teeth. I service my 911 Turbo there and still a test drive is basically 100% out of the question. For that reason, I'll likely never buy a car from MAG. In comparison, I went to LFSC when visiting family in the Chicago area and Adam was perhaps the nicest exotic salesman I'd ever met. At the time, I had never even driven an exotic car, and he was 100% ok with me test driving a new 2009 Aston Martin Vantage. I offered him proof of financial ability, and he simply said don't worry about it, drove an Aston right off the show room, and ended up talking cars with me for 2 hours. After our drive together, he got out and told me to take my sister for a spin around the block. I ended up getting a 911 Turbo elseware, and regret LFSC did not have the right car for me at the time, but I was so blown away with how great they were that I share this little story everytime I get a chance (it's all over at 6speed forums). They also have one of the best exotic inventories under one roof I've ever seen in person. (I promise I have no affiliation with LFSC other than this one great experience!). Sorry for the OT.

Cali's are the "gentleman's ferrari." Case in point is the car I saw at MAG in Columbus that was owned by Les Wexner (CEO of Limited Brands, Victoria's Secret, ect). He drove it all of 266 miles and now its for sale. Probably used for a weekend getaway, and the $40k price tag on that didn't make a bit of difference.

I'm picking one up this weekend.

Prices in the U.K are optimistic to say the least ranging from £140K-£165k.

Some dealers have them on SOR, offering £140k on some of these cars, being turned down, big mistake!!

Bought one for close to £130k, a very high spec car that was exactly what I was looking for. I'm guessing they'll bottom out at £110K-£120k once the supply dries up.

Main issue here is that most of the cars have average specs with sky high prices.

Algar Ferrari has one for $227. 250 miles I think. Ferrari of Denver has one with a tad more miles for $259. Way over priced compared to Algar's

The one at Algar is under contract but hasn't been actually sold as of this morning. I saw it in person, it is awesome.
