This one is pretty trick. It's an 88. Enzo gave it to Nino Vacarella and we bought it from him. Great mountain car.
The records/specs are with the car in Europe and there were documents from Enzo to Nino but I don't have copies here. We can't bring it back to the US for 3 years but will at that point.
I've often wondered what those are like to drive compared to the 308 non-turbos. Is there much turbo lag? If I recall, they make more torque than the 308s do, is that correct? Is the three year wait simply a matter of the 25 year old car rule? PDG
Great reply Glen...really productive. Being that I don't have the vast knowledge of Ferraris like you do, I didn't know if it was a typo, or if Ferrari kept the same engine as in the 308 body style, or if someone (perhaps you) had knowledge that maybe in later years they increased it from a 2 litre engine to a 2.X litre, like they increased the 3 litre to a 3.2 litre. Thanks again for your value added post. Thanks Michael...THAT was an informative answer. Appreciate it.
Jim, thanks for posting the photo of your 208 GTB turbo. It brought back great memories. My father is from Italy and I spent most of my summers there growing up. Many of my relatives there enjoyed motorsport in some capacity or another and my love of cars developed from my many trips there. The first Ferrari I ever drove was a 208 GTS turbo that my cousin owned. I can't begin tell you how much fun I had driving that car. I specifically remember driving it up to one of the many obscure hill towns near Brescia one day to watch his friend race his 348. My cousin also had a Lancia Delta Integrale which was equally fun to drive. That summer on the flight home to Seattle I vowed to own both of those cars some day. Fast forward 20 years or so and I have not given up on my quest to own both of these cars. I too am waiting the obligitory 25 years before attempting to import them here. In the mean time, I bought the closest Ferrari I could find, an 86' 328 and have been enjoying that a great deal. Your post inspired me to dig up my old photos, a few of which I have attached. Sorry for the poor quality, they are digital photos of the originals. I saw Max Papis in one at both TWS and then in Dallas...it was. He snapped a halfshaft on the warm up lap in Dallas, was a DNS....
Indeed it was. Unfortunately, that was the only shot I got of it that day. A few other shots from that afternoon . . . Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Jim, my apologies for hijacking your thread . . . I promise, the previous post will be the last of my interruptions.
Very interesting car. How does it compare to the 328? I'm sure the power band is very different - Erik
Great mountain car indeed, as are all 3X8. Nothing beats it for an afternoon of spirited pass driving. How I'd love to take it up and down the Stelvio! Yours must be a blast on the Giro too....one day!
yes, I have run into a bit of info on 208 turbo cars that exist in the USA in search of info on my 208 Dino.
