My wife and I are planning a Cross Country road trip in my Cali. We will start from Tampa, Florida drive to Toronto then on to Mount Rushmore then Yellowstone then Monterey, CA.

In Monterey for 3 days we will attend the Concorso Italiano, a Laguna Seca Race, and Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, then drive back to Florida via a I-10.

My Cali is a 2011 with 8,400 miles, is there anything I should worry about or be concerned with driving my Cali that far. Any prep I should do to the car before the trip. Should I carry a fire extinguisher? etc...

I wish you could have been in yellowstone a couple weeks ago. The Cali would have been a nice change in scenery from all the buffalo I saw.

Eric, that sounds fantastic! I am sittinging here debating with my son about whether or not I should drive my Cali up from Florida this week to the Concours of America in Plymouth, MI - about a 1200 mile ride. It feels lame that I am even debating this when your trip is so much more ambitious. Regardless of my decision I can't think of any reason other than the time involved on why not to do it. Have a wonderful trip zwith your beautiful wife and make some great memories.

Wow! I am jealous! No fire extinguisher unless you want to help some other car with trouble. Oil change before you go but that is all I would do. The California really needs little service. Windex and paper towels for the windshield. Your favorite wash mit and soap to get bugs off once in a while without hurting the paint is good.

Yea, I do plain on getting it washed a lot. The fire extinguisher was kind of a joke but I have seen a lot of Ferraris and other exotics with an extinguisher nearby and with the 458 fire issues in the wheel wells, I was just thinking it may be a good idea.

I am so pumped up for this trip.

I did have the oil changed at 4,500 miles, do you think it needs it again before the trip?

So I stopped by my local Ferrari dealership today, very late afternoon (I called first, around 4:00 PM) and asked for an oil change. They were johnny on the spot and got my Cali in (Sweet). I also ordered a new set of tires and will have them put on before the trip.

I have been a little bit of a lead foot sense I took delivery. :)

So I signed up for Concorso Italiano and got tickets for the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, which I am really looking forward to. This will be my wife's and my first time in Monterey for car week. On Saturday I have tickets for Laguna Seca. What else should I see when I am there?

TAKE PICTURES... it would be really nice to take pictures, maybe start the Cali adventure thread or something... first picture the driveway leaving home an the last arriving home facing into the driveway... etc It would make the summer go by a little faster for us who are stuck here at the office, and it would be fun checking in on your progress and how the car treats you two for all those miles...

I purchased 2 x 1 TB harddrives just to save the pictures while on this trip. We are going to take pictures of everything. I will be posting here in this thread a lot while on the road. We are going to take out time, and not try to drive to much each day. That should leave time for good meals and computer time. My wife and I are connected like crazy, she carries her Macbook Air, and iPad 2, and I will have my Macbook Pro. She will have her Canon 50D and I will have my Canon 5D Mark II so I will shoot a little video also.

I am so pumped for this trip I wish I could leave now. I have a quick trip to Vegas for work (6 days) before I can get on the road but it will be here soon.

Check out montereycarweek dot com for a schedule of car events during the week. It seems to have a decent aggregation of the biggest events going on. There are also various car club events going on in conjunction with the various festivities - for example if you are a FCA member, FCA Pacific Region is hosting a few events. Ferraripacific dot org.

If that's too much car stuff and you want to do civilian activities, PM me with your interests and I'd be happy to make suggestions. This will be my first time spending the entire week there, so my caveat will be that I don't have a good sense of how completely crazy crowded it will be prior to Friday (for example for golfing)!

And I second (third? fourth?) the motion to take lots of pics!

I found montereycarweek dot com a week or so ago and it has been very helpful.

One of the other things I have planned is stop by I see as many Ferrari dealerships along the route. Here is what I have so far:

    Ferrari of Washington
    Cauley Ferrari
    Ferrari of San Francisco
    Ferrari Maserati of Silicon Valley
    the Auto Gallery
    Ferrari Maserati of Beverly Hills
    Ferrari of Newport Beach
    Ferrari of San Diego
    Scottsdale Ferrari
    Barrett Motor Cars
    Ferrari of Houston

Be sure to stop by Ferrari's new state of the art dealership in Woodbridge if you have time during your stay in Toronto.

Wow, sort of like attending baseball games at all the parks! A collage of pictures of their main entrances with your car in front or a collection of keychains with their names on them might be fun to gather. Just don't get tempted to buy another car at each stop!!

I will see if I can get the keychains from each. The service manager at my local dealer suggested license plate holders but I like the keychains idea much better.

If I see the right car along the way.... Of course I am sure all of the good ones will be on their way to Monterey (By Truck).

Just got back from my dealer (Ferrari of Tampa Bay), they installed a new set of tires this morning. So the car is read for the trip and in tip top shape.

Now comes the hard part, figuring out what to bring and what to leave behind. I need my camera gear, laptop, etc.. and my wife needs her camera gear, laptop, etc... we need a few articles of clothing (enough to keep warm).

The goal is to make sure we can put the top down with everything packed in the trunk and back seats. The trip will not be as fun unless we can put the top down.

    :)

Eric- The one thing you might consider carrying is a small, 12V tire compressor in case you have a flat. If you have a compressor that does not inject goo into the tire, you can refill the tire periodically until you reach someplace where they can repair the tire. Other than that, you should have no problems, and the odds are if you are prepared for a flat tire, you will not get one. If you have run flats, forget what I said.
