    How do you distinguish a 400 from a 412 externally? (Like w/ a 365GT4, it has 3 tail lights each side and a knock-off
wheel center as opposed to the 400 series' 2 rear lights and 5 lugs.)

And an injected vs. non-injected Boxer...again, externally ?

    Thanks.

Full White headlight for the 412 ( as opposed to Orange turn signal on the 400i )
Convex 5 star wheels on the 412 as opposed to Concave wheels on the 400i

512 BBi : fog light arent covered by the front grill ( Covered by the grill on the 512 BB )

400 has black bumpers and concave wheels-412 has painted bumpers and flat faced wheels. Lots of little things and different interior but those you can see from a distance.

512BB has a full width grill in front and inch sized wheels-BBi has fog lights at ends of front grill opening, fog lights in rear bumper and TRX wheels and tires.

Other external differences between 512BB and 512BBi:

    1) 512BBi has large outside mirrors on both passenger and driver side.

    2) 512BBi rear deck has different arrangement of "carb covers" and ventilation louvers than the 512BB. The 512BBi has the "carb covers" mounted closer together on the rear deck, resulting in a narrower set of louvers between them, but wider louvers on the far sides.

Here's the list on the 365/400/412 cars:

    365 GT4 2+2:
Knockoffs, no lower spoiler, fog lights behind grill, 6 tail lights (I know of three worldwide with 4), sill between wheels is body color, cavallino on front grill, no model designation on rear panel, black bumpers, driver's side mirror, and aluminum colored grill in hood.

    400 Automatic/GT:
5 bolt concave rims, small lip spoiler on front, fog lights behind grill, 4 tail lights, sill between doors in black, no cavallino in front grill, model designation on left side of license plate, aluminum colored grill in hood, black bumpers, and driver's side mirror.

    400i Automatic/GT:
5 bolt concave rims, small lip spoiler on front, fog lights exposed, 4 tail lights, sill between doors in black, no cavallino in front grill, model designation on left of license plate, rear fog lights in bumper, body colored grill in hood, black bumpers, and dual mirrors in black.

    412:
5 bolt dished rims, deep front spoiler on front, exposed fog lights, 4 tail lights, sill between doors in black, cavallino in front grill, model designation on left side of license plate, rear fog lights below bumper, body colored grill in hood, body colored bumpers, and dual mirrors in body color.

The headlights with/without the yellow/orange portions were more dependant on the original market, not necessarily the model. I love these cars and I might be crazy enough to buy one of each of them at sometime in the future if the price for a good one keeps hovering around the low $20's.

Thanks for the details, judge. Now I can spot the "subtle" differences. The wheels seem to be the most obvious
    to the untrained eye.

You'll also notice that the 412 has slightly higher rear end metal work over the earlier cars
