User ETL330 posted this picture of what seems to be a uncovered headlights 250 SWB Cali But is it an original Cali or a reproduction? http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showpost.php?p=141696195&postcount=363
Looks like the genuine article to me. This is out in the Hamptons. Plenty of hard core collectors have places in the Hamptons. If I had to guess, this car probably belongs to P.K. Perhaps Marcel can chime in.
Perhaps Ralph Lauren's 2167 GT? I believe he has a place in Montauk (which used to house many of his historic cars).
If I were betting (and I am not), I'd say it is not genuine. No front bumper. Headlights are all wrong. Amber side turn line in front of front wheel is not placed properly. Rocker panel on side is aluminum and does not match proper rocker panel. No side view mirror. (And no hole to put one there--suggesting that this is not a stage between painting and restoring.) Door pull handle not original. Wheel arch on rear too high. Seat backs ride about an inch too low. Other stuff. Just not right. Finally, if you had a $5 million + car would you park it next to an Infinity that might ding your door? I subscribe to Malcolm Gladwell's "Blink." I didn't get a good blink on it. And, it does need an alignment
Is the Ralph Lauren 2167 blue? I saw the RL collection and remember commenting that all his Ferraris were red. But I cannot specifically recall seeing a 250 California. I know he has a GTO, A TR and a 250 LM (which is my favorite). I read that he has a California, but just don't remember seeing it.
Had a short look at my SWB California files but no car matches with the car in question. I dont have and dont know everything, but i would guess its a rebody.
2167 GT was born with open headlights. Maybe Ralph Lauren commissioned a color change and decided to return it to its original headlight configuration? It's hard to imagine someone would build a replica Spider California SWB in open headlight configuration, but I suppose anything's possible....
When I saw it My B@lls dropped 2 inches.. was really authentic looking.. Parked at Guerneys spa in Montauk curious to know whose it was... Fake or not, some serious quality build is involved.. Id take it in a flash. Dude, are you kidding. Look at the front of the car in Post #12 and look at the front of the car in Post #1. In post 12, even though the lights are covered, they are recessed. In post #1, they protrude. Take the covers off the RL car and they still look NOTHING like the headlights in Post #1. In order to make the car in #12 like the car in #1, you would have to rebuild the entire front end. I am now convinced that the car in Post #1 is a replica. It doesn't even have a side mirror.
Now that I have seen these pictures of the sides and back, it is not authentic. The folding top is all wrong. Among half a dozen other things.
so its either worth $450,000. or $4,500,000.00 , make that 14,500,000.00 Are those tires bias ply nylon??? By the way....Ralph laurens beach estate is 500 yards east of this parking lot... Occasionally I see him in any one of his Rosso corsa vintage jewels powering out on rte. 27.. whata sight..I think he sits on phone books to stay above dash board line as his vertebrae have shrunk quite a bit in his waning years..
It is a beautiful looking car. No shame in driving it, if it is a replicar. Like I said, I am no expert in these vintage cars. It could be authentic, but I'd bet that it is not. It almost looks like a 330 GTS that has been modified to be a 250 GT.
This is not Lauren's 2167GT, but looks like million dollars to me. If that turns out to be a fake, it is the best one I've ever seen. Few details bother me a little, but hey, maybe that's just the neurotic side of me...
This is what the open headlight cars look like. Changing from one configuration to the other is NOT a matter of simply adding or removing covers. This car looks very much like the real deal to me. If I'm wrong, then it's a masterful rebody.
Is it 2505? Was repainted dark blue by Classiche in 2010, according to Barchetta.cc. Made an appearance at the 2011 Cavallino Classic, apparently, so it has been on US soil recently.
