A wonderful honor for Testarossa owners...

The Radnor Hunt Concours D'Elegance (www.radnorconcours.org) is the premier concours event in our region. It draws 100 of the finest cars from around the country.

This year, the Concours paid homage to historic Ferraris. The cars invited to the event consisted of:

1949 166MM Barchetta
1991 Ferrari F40
1957 Ferrari 500 TRC Spider
1969 Ferrari 365 GTB4 NART Competition Daytona
1957 Ferrari 250 Testa rossa
1965 Ferrari 275 GTS Spider
2011 Ferrari 599 GTO
2003 Ferrari Enzo
1984 Ferrari 512BBI
1966 Ferrari 206 SP

Oh, and one other, a certain 1986 Ferrari Testarossa....MY Testarossa. That the testarossa itself would be considered for such a prestigious event validated my position regarding the iconic stature of these cars...that my car had earned a reputation warranting an unsolicited invitation was an incredible honor.

When it came time for the awards at the conclusion of the event, my daughter was getting tired and I told my family to go home...It was a honor enough to have been invited, but an award was the farthest thing from my mind. Shortly after my family made their way to the car, the Judges announced the award for Best Historic Ferrari Post 1974. The esteemed collection of judges follow French Rules. It is assumed that since all of the cars invited are of exceptional quality and authenticity, that, in addition to measuring condition, they give serious consider to form, function, and history.

At first, I thought WHAT!!!! Then, as the judge's explained their selection, it made sense. The Testarossa's iconic stature, its importance to the marque, and its identity within Ferrari, even 25 years later, cannot be understated, even in comparison to those super cars that where also in its category.

I am exceedingly proud that our Testarossa took this honor. In my view it has been a banner year for the flying mirror. First, a leading enthusiast magazine declared the Testarossa to the next big collector car to watch, then Hemmings featured it on the cover of their magazine last month, and most recently, early flying mirror Testarossas have had previously unheard of auction results.

In two weeks our TR heads to another Ferrari event, where she has been selected as one of ten historic Ferraris for display.

I believe those that are shorting these cars, are going to regret their decision in five years time.


Lastly, I want to thank Presidential Details for the exquisite job they did preparing her for the Concours and F-chat's JoeMac for allowing the use of his garage to for pre-show preparations.
