While daydreaming about driving the Tr, I poked over to http://www.mot.org/Events/lawn.html and found this year's event date has been set. Hope to see some of you guys before the show if the snow disappears before then. Kenny K.
One of my favorite events....Hopefully the weather will co-operate for the weekend, and we can all run the Tutto Rally the day before... Try not to get pulled over though Kenny..... Alex
I've already signed up! I have also invited the young son of old friends who has a real interest in cars to be my co-pilot for the day. It is his first car event and I too hope for great weather and a good turnout to make his day memorable. At the risk of sounding maudlin, having a picnic on the grass at Larz Anderson surrounded by all the sights and smells is probably the closest that I will every get to a Monterey experience.
Karc, Yes, there is a rally the day before the show. Last year it started at KTR, went to Ferrari NE, then to dinner on Newbury Street. If the weather is nice, I do plan on taking the Testarossa. Last year it was raining the day of the rally, so I took my Mustang. This may have upset one or two people who did not want a "commoner's car" like a Supercharged Mustang Convertible to ruin the Italian rally. I had pre-registered for the rally, but refused to destroy a 6 hour detailing of the Testarossa before the show took place by driving in the bad weather. Hopefully, the weather will co-operate this year, as I would like nothing better than to drive the TR amongst all of the other amazing cars that go on the rally. Alex
Are they doing Louis Cafe again? I was in the dark blue Mondial Cab., at the front of the pack. It got a little confusing since the Trooper never disclosed which route we were taking. I remember clouds, but I think we escaped rain for most of the night??
I just hope the weather holds out........ Does anyone have any feelings as to the plusses or minuses of having your car judged? - Ron
They scrutinize your car, but they do it nicely. I was shocked to win a prize, since the Mondial has a few nicks for 9k miles. For an 83, they liked it tho. I lost points on my driver seat color fade; it's a quick fix with leatherique..
Dads, Would have to check with Dennis (BigHead) I believe he set up the route last year. The show has a new organizer this year, I am not sure what, if any, changes they plan to make. We did escape the rain, and it was a fun ride. The troopers did make things a bit confusing. They actually pulled a few people over on the Highway, while simultaniously escorting a pack of exotics + two Mustangs to Newbury Street. Alex
The judges are fair, but they notice EVERYTHING. I have a polished gas cap from a 512TR on my car, and I lost points for that. I was also slightly nervous during the judging, and accidentally backed off the key when starting it for them, therefore it did not fire on the first crank. This was a deduction as well. My car did take the Silver Award in the 1974+ 12 Cylinder class, and I was pleasantly surprised. Preparation is the key. Alex
Yeah, the Trooper at the lead of the pack wanted to take Storrow to Beacon, but this would have left out a nice loud run through the new tunnels. Bighead does a lot of cruises for the 495 folks. I also am not sure if the new organizers will be as experienced or efficient as the Heffrons were, so we'll see if any good opportunities present themselves this year( or down the road).
Hey guys.... I need some info./advice on this year's Tutto Italiano in May. I did not own my 328 last May and was out of the country when the event took place. I would like to go this year and enter my car for concours. Questions: Do I need to register in advance for the Sunday event in Brookline? Do the judges give or take away points high-mileage cars? I have 142,000 miles and the car is in pretty pristine condition (minus a bit of rock-rage on the front end) What kind of prizes are won at this event? Also importantly, do they serve beer/booze there at the event? Any advice on what to expect or do in advance would be very welcome and much appreciated! Brandon
>Questions: >Do I need to register in advance for the Sunday event in Brookline? Yeah, but it's easy to do. You *can* just show up and register, but then you'll pay more, and get a less desirable parking space away from other cars in your class. Much easier to register ahead of time. Forms will be included in FCA member mailings. >Do the judges give or take away points high-mileage cars? I have 142,000 miles and the car is in pretty pristine condition (minus a bit of rock-rage on the front end) I don't recall what the judging standards are, but for Ferraris, they follow FCA guidelines. IIRC, you're given some leeway for usage, but I dunno if 142k is given more credit than the age of the car. Better check with the judges when it gets closer. >What kind of prizes are won at this event? Just trophies/plaques, though there are some nice raffle prizes too. A fellow FChatter won a set of Pirellis for his Lambo - the most expensive set Pirelli makes, I think! >Also importantly, do they serve beer/booze there at the event? Nope! Town of Brookline is very, very strict about this, alas. No booze. vty, --Dennis
Hey Dennis - thanks for the info! I am really psyched about the upcoming Tutto Italiano event and will be on the lookout for the registration forms in the mail.
To find out precisely how long you must wait before Tutto Italiano 2005, Click the link below: http://xtremecleancars.com/v-web/bulletin/bb/viewtopic.php?t=38 We have added a countdown clock that will tell you how many Days, Hours, Minutes, and Seconds you must wait before the show.... As of this minute there are 95 Days, 15 Hours, 25 Minutes, and 44 Seconds before the cars hit the lawn. Enjoy..... Alex
I've judged 3x8s the last 2 Tutto Italianos. No credit/penalty for mileage, other than general goodwill for cars that are really driven & not just garage queens... Believe only prizes are certificates. At least that's all I remember. Had to leave early last year, so wasn't there when results were announced.
Damn! Damn! Damn! I have been looking forward to this all winter, and I'm going to be away on business that weekend. DAMN!!
Hi All, I am Bruce Ledoux and the chair of The Tutto event. You can get details and register online at http://www.ledouxweb.com/tutto.htm FYI Last year's show is on Dennis Gage's, "My Classic Car" this weekend (3/27 at 10 a.m. then again at 12 p.m.). We are working on many new updates for this, the 10th year. Here are some highlights: 1. We have permit from the Town to use the entire hill above the museum. (read - more cars). 2. We have expanded the show to include Italian motorcycles which will be shown in the bowling green at the top of the hill. 3. We are actively working to have roughly a dozen vintage race cars including the possibility of a 1977 312t F1 car. 4. We will have a lunch and rally on Saturday followed by a cocktail reception and dinner. Lots of driving to be done here. 5. The trophies will be awarded as per judged concours outlines as well as 5 subjective trophies voted by viewing public. 6. Presentation of the trophies will happen "Pebble Beach" style again with recipients driving up on the red carpet to receive. More news as we get it. Thanks again - please tell all your friends to come, we have a tremendous amount of new lawn to fill up. - Bruce
