Quick question...I was at a stop light and looked at display, and the "N" was flashing what does it mean? The car went into gear fine and have had no other problems. CS only has 600 miles on it. Just curious if i did something to initiate it. Thanx for the help..

I can't find it now but I am sure someone else recently reported that problem. At the time I reviewed all my 360 F1 materials to be sure and found no mention of a flashing N. Any error indication (and I would consider this one) in an F1 should not be ignored. As much as I like F1's they have the nasty habit of leaving you stranded when something goes wrong. A shop with an SD2 and someone really knowledgeable of the system can figure it out. The system is very good at recording errors, too good in fact. There are usually so many of them in memory that you need to be knowledgeable enough of the system to know which ones to ignore and which ones are a clue to direct you.

It would seem more than likely that you will have to test the car on SD2 - here are some notes from the workshop manual..........................

    Signs of possible problems

    • The starter motor does not switch on (essential condition).
    • The display indicates a gear engagement or "N" is flashing.

    Components involved

    • Battery connection and knife switch.
    • Ignition switch
    • Starter relay and CD diode module.
    • TCU
    • Engagement sensor.
    • Engagement solenoid valves.

    Practical checks

    • If the display shows the symbol "N" continuously, check that pins 27 and 28 of TCU feature +12V battery and, through the ignition switch, that pin 87 of the RLA, features +12V battery.

    • If the display shows a gear engaged or "N" is flashing, use the Ferrari Tester to check that the engagement position lies within the min. and max. neutral thresholds. If this condition is not met, check the gearbox actuation as below described.

    NOTES

If the car is not started even if the starter motor works and no request for motor stop is stored by the engine ECU, this means that the problem is not caused by the gearshift system.

The search function is your friend =))))

So nobody here has had a problem like this since 05 or at least not adressed it. When flashing in gear it seems concensus is clutch slippage. Flashing in N (neutral) could be a number of problems?

My CS has had a flashing "N" a few times.

Anyone knowledgeable, care to fill me in?

    TIA, Peter Oh

    Peter,

What was the issue? My F430 has started showing a blinking 'N', usually if I put it in neutral while moving (to coast up to a stoplight). If I put into gear and then back to N, there is no more blinking.

    Thanks,
    Mike

Have seen this issue a few times and is either due to clutch going over PIS or low system pressure. A few cars i work on have worn pumps and stubborn owners and this issue seems a regular feature on their cars...
