"LOS ANGELES -- One person was killed Thursday in a crash at California Speedway in Fontana.

A private car club was renting the speedway at the time of the crash.

A Porsche Carrera GT crashed into a retaining wall and came to rest on the track's infield. Authorities said two people were in the vehicle at the time of the crash.

One person was pronounced dead at the scene.

The second person in the car was transported by Mercy Air to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center. That person's condition was unknown."

Edit: updated the title. Sad day...

That really sucks to see anything like that happen. It absolutely makes you think twice about track days. FYI, the story on NBC has been updated to say that the second person died as well. :(

The structure of the car itself seems like it held up amazingly well. I would assume that it was probably the mass of the helmets that caused spinal injury. Makes you wonder if a HANS system would have prevented this....

He was one of those guys who made me enjoy spending time on car forums, we were in disagreement most of the times but made up recently, I will miss him and pray for his family.
He left a wife and a baby daughter.

    All,
If you have any one of Ben's phone #'s please do not try calling him. His wife has his phone and as you can imagine is incredibly upset. We do not need to upset her more.

    thanks,

    Bhuta
