Just adjusted my handbrake today so thought I'd do a 60 second overview...

    - The 355 has separate brake shoes for the handbrake function. The brake drum is inside the regular disc/rotor.
    - There are two adjustments possible that will account for either cable stretch or brake shoe wear.
    - Brake shoe wear should be adjusted first, then cable adjustment.
    - Jack the rear of the car and remove the rear wheels.
    - Release the handbrake and leave the car in neutral.
    - The shoe adjuster is accessed through the holes in the front of the drum marked "A" in the picture.
    - The clearance adjuster is a castellated nut (item 30 in the schematic) that is rotated with a screwdriver through the access hole.
    - Looking from the rear of the vehicle to the front, the adjuster is rotated anti-clockwise to tighten and clockwise to loosen.
    - Start with the left side. Tighten the adjuster until the brake is locked.
    - Slowly release adjuster so that the disc can rotate with a very small amount of "drag".
    - Repeat on the right side.
    - Once the shoes are adjusted, check that the handbrake is fully applied within 3 - 4 clicks.
    - If there is excess or insufficient lever travel this can be adjusted at the cable adjuster (item 17 in schematic).
    - The cable adjuster is found under the left side of the car, directly in front of the wheel/tyre.
    - Adjust the cable until the handbrake is fully applied after 3 - 4 clicks.
    - Make sure the cable adjuster lock-nut is tight.
    - Replace the wheels and torque bolts to spec.

One problem is that the shoe adjuster can get rusted to the point that it will not move. You have to pull the rotor off to get some WD40 in to it. I had to do this to mine.

    Very nice post.

By the way 348s have the same set up for the parking break. So the same thing applies to the 348.

Ok, so please allow me a stupid question but this separate brake is on both or just one of the rear wheels?

On both of course - you will see that there are cables leading to each of the rear wheels.

If you have the time and inclination, a strip down and clean of the assemblies before adjustment also helps. They can get extremely dirty and less effective.

Worked for me, will post before and after pics.
