    Hey people

As my airco is driving me nuts (E1 / E2 errors) I tried to do the heater / airco thingy what people do when the things starts blowing hot air, even when the heater is off... the bad connectors.
Although there was a little chance that it would help me I thought I'd give a try, you'll never know...

Of course it didn't help me, but I want to share what I saw on my print.
What the hell is that ? Did someone loose his chewing gum or what ???

Or am I not mechanic enough (great chance...) to recognize this blob ???

(besides all this, just 2 little screws under the ashtray and the whole console und heater unit comes off.... unbelievable, heh heh)

Be VERY VERY careful with that unit. That's all I'll say. If it gets busted, you are totally S.O.L.

It looks like silicon rubber, commony used to keep parts from vibrating loose etc, can't figure out what it's doing in that place though. Look for corrosion on the pins of the header connector

Mine has similar silicon on it, leave it alone. Order some Stabalant 22a from Ricambi and work it into all the connections you can find between the circuit boards. There's enough flex in the boards to let you do this. My E1 problem was solved when I worked Stabalant into the ground connections on the left front bulkhead behind the a/c outlet on the dash.

Geeze what a sloppy job they did. Italian electronics at is "best". Then people wonder why Ferrari's have so many electrical problems. What a mess.

    Hello Markie

Could you please be more specific about that "bulkhead" and where it is situated ?
Perhaps you could be so kind to pass a pic ?

I rebuilt the thing very carefully again, but right away after I put the ignition on I got the E1 error agian. And it is so hot here....in the 90ties.

    Thanks !

It is very common on all kinds of electrical boards that might get vibrated to put silicone or hot glue around certain heavy components. Open up a guitar amp sometime and you will see it done. They vibrate like crazy. Without this, vibration would cause the heavy components like large capacitors to crack the solder connections on the circuit board. Nothing abnormal here, and actually good engineering and thinking ahead. It's no designed to be pretty.

Can anybody explain what this magic "Stabalant 22a" exactly is ? I`ve read a lot of it here, and maybe it´s useful for the electric issues of my 348 too... Is it also available in europe, specially germany ?

    Regards, Georg

This seems to be what was causing my clock to keep resetting to 0:00 all the time. Dry joint that had got hot. Been OK for a few months after re-soldering.

Sorry for the delay, been out of town. The bulkhead I'm referring to is the metal structure behind the dash. I was trying to get at the cabin temp sensor which is located in the lower dash [ your left knee points to it when you are seated, behind perforated leather on my car] I started by removing the trim surrounding the left dash a/c trim [the black stuff] when I came across a terminal strip of @ 5 ground connections bolted to this bulkhead just to the left of the steering column. Two of the wires looked like they went in the direction of the temp sensor which I still hadn't accessed. All of these connections looked slightly corroded, so I applied the Stabalant to them and voila! E1 code gone and a/c has worked flawlessly ever since. Hope this helps!

Great update! Did you use contact cleaner first, or simply swabbed the Stabilant 22A right onto the connection?

Just swabed it in and worked the connections on and off to try and get to bare metal.

    Hello Markie
Now I was on holiday for 3 weeks, excuse me.
All clear, I'm gonna look tomorrow if I can get to that bulkhead.

    Thanks a lot
