Rusty Rotors After Washing

It is important to oil your rotors immediatly after washing. You could also just trade in for a 430 with carbon rotors. Or maybe just paint em'

 

never heard that. what are you supposed to oil them with? why wouldn't Ferrari include that in their care manual if it is important?

 

Spray on WD-40 then lightly brush with 50 weight gear oil if you didn't buy the rotor oiling kit from the dealer. Most have it for sale in the boutique next to the Connolly hide food and the Ferrari umbrellas. Give Tony at Barrett a call about it.






DON'T ACTUALLY OIL YOUR ROTORS!! YOU WILL CRASH AND DIE AND I WILL LAUGH AT YOU!!!

 

You know, it's people like you that give Ferraris a reputation for bad reliability, because you can't be bothered to follow necessary maintenance procedures.

I bet you've never even bothered to check your blinker fluid level, much less change it or flush the system!

 

I second PDX's recommendation of painting the rotors. Maybe get the rust-proof enamel from Home Depot. Yellow calipers *and* rotors!

If you are going to oil your rotors please don't forget to take that extra step and armour all your tire treads

 

Mine were shiny steel, then I painted them rust color.

Now lets say the guy takes you seriously, after all - this is a board full of "ferrari experts." Then he hits a tree at 40 mph. Sure, it might be a weeee bit funny ( )...until the lawyers start to call you...

Funny coincidence, opened the box with new shiny Brembo discs I got (for my '82 Alfasud ) and in the brochure that came in the box that says how great they are, it is mentioned that for some high end applications Brembo discs are available with all the surface painted that is not in contact with the pads.

 

If you just washed your car and will not be driving it for a while, make sure you drive around the block and heat up the brakes fully to dry them. Otherwise the water trapped between the pads and rotor may leave surface rust that's severe enough to actually pit it slightly. It happend to me once on a 355 with Brembo 2pc rotors, and it took about a week of driving before the rotor/pad combo smoothed themselves out again.

Edge rust is another story. IMHO it acutally looks pretty cool as that's what they suppose to look like. See picture.

Actually the comment about driving the car after washing it is a good one. It's the fun and natural way to blow water out of all those places you didn't know it accumulated.

 

I was amazed at what the Ferrari dealer wanted for Blinker Fluid so I did a search on the Internet, and found that Kale Co. sells the EXACT SAME THING, but it's only $5.99 a bottle. I use it each tuneup, and it WORKS GREAT! It might void the warrantee, but I don't care.

I think its all bs. I bet you could go 30,000 miles without changing the blinker fluid, but ferrari knows its a cash cow. Thats why they recommend it every 5000 miles. Folks who use their blinker more frequently seem to have less problems. Why doesn't someone come up with a chain driven blinker instead! Anyone try to adapt the blinker from a japanese car?

Also, they now recommend fresh air in your tires annually. The air must be flown in from italy, otherwise it voids the warranty. A special tool is required to change the air...Where can we get one?

Don't forget to lube the cair rails...either. Easily overlooked, you know!

 

Don't you know this is why the cancel kam on the 308s fails so much?

Is it just the picture quality, or are your rotors that grooved?
Looks like they need turning and new pads!

 

I was thinking the exact same thing!

Time to turn those things... if you can run your finger across it and it doesn't feel smooth you need to have them turned.

 

It's on the shelf right next to the prop wash for those of us who like to detail our planes.

 

A little WD40 on the brake pedal really helps that annoying squeaking too. If you have rubber pedals in older cars, Armor-all does nicely.

I guess the good news is no one yelled at him to check the archives first.

 

Just curious, does the blinker fluid help the blinkers go go faster or does it stay the same, mine seem to go at a slower than normal speed but maybe this fluid will make them a little quieter cause the bleep bleep is quite annoying.
