0276MM (now 0330MM) lost it's PF berlinetta bodywork back in '53, but it would surprise me to find that it was still around and in this condition.
Is there a proof (picture ??) that 0276MM was originally a PF berlinetta ?? I wonder if the Morelli spider body was not original ??
I don't know and don't have the rescources to verify one way or the other. I suppose one could start with a search for photos of the car at the few events that it is believed to have participated in during that short period of time. According to Barchetta, we have: Giro di Sicilia Franco Cornacchia, April 12, 1953 Trieste-Opicina hillclimb, June 21, 1953 Stella Alpina, August 30, 1953
I have pics showing the Morelli spider with number 22 at Gran Premio dell autodromo di Monza on 29 june 1953. So we can eliminate the Stella Alpina in August. Same thing for the Trieste-Opicina hillclimb on 21 june 1953 : only one week to rebody the car ! I bet anything that the Giro di Sicilia's car was not 0276MM but another 250 MM.
One car driven by Cornacchia in 1953 : 0256MM. 0256MM could be the car raced bu him in the Giro di Sicilia. About the 250 MM body, what about the "Heuberger's project and 0254MM" ?? Could this body be the 270MM's original body still not re-used ??
Message was sent as soon as this thread appeared. Since that was approximately 8:30 pm their time, I don't expect a response anytime soon.
> Giro di Sicilia Franco Cornacchia, April 12, 1953 > Trieste-Opicina hillclimb, June 21, 1953 > Stella Alpina, August 30, 1953 For the most part the files on www.barchetta.cc have not been edited for more than 5-6 years now, so using that as a source you will create more confusion that it will solve. If I remember right, Cornacchia raced 0156 in Giro and probably used 0256 for Trieste (0156 was now with Bonomi). Piotti was in Stella with 0276 - a Morelli Spider. FWIW, I have never seen any proof over 0276 having been anything else than a Morelli Spider. Best wishes, Kare
> Could this body be the 270MM's original body still not re-used ?? Very good catch, what else could it be?
Many years ago I saw a 250MM which had been rebodied by Boano and had full street trim. The car was located in Westchester County, NY and belonged to an eclectic fellow. Could this possibly from that car?
Can we have a photo of what the finished car would look like ... cause I am saluvating looking at that body, it's gorgeous!!! Er, here's one And yes I now that shape ... got too excited Pete
I believe this is the 0276MM or 0330MM. This photo was taken here in Portugal around 1953, after some changes made by my father (in the photo). Here is also a photo of the car in the races, in it's original shape. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
By coincidence, today Jarrett asked me for info on one of my pix and I was able to tell him that I had taken it at Jackson Brooks' years ago. (You may recall that Jarrett is digitizing all my pix). I recall seeing a 250MM with a strange body hanging loose on one of his 2 or 3 250MM's. It was a spider, very plain and somewhat boxy and undistinguished. Unfortunately, the pic that Jarrett found is not of that car, but is of a "standard" Vignale spider (if there is such a thing!). Maybe if we are lucky a pic will turn up of the body in question---he is still going thru them.
The second photo was as far as I know taken at Boavista June 21 1953 with Nogueira Pinto in #0332MM. The first photo would be of 0330MM.
