Hello, I have a broken a/c line that needs to be replaced I think I only need to remove the fuel tank. Any suggestion what to do first . ?? All input will be much appreciated, Luuk Image Unavailable, Please Login
Ooooh. Yeah you are going to have to remove the fuel tank. You will also need to remove the tunnel cover on the bottom of the car, the rock cover under the gas tank, and disconnect the shift cables. The a/c line runs from the back of the car to the front. You should be able to do the job in a day.
What about pos. 31 on the picture ? Do I have to remove the cover behind the seats to access that. Luuk Image Unavailable, Please Login
I was just informed about the price of a new pipe... ...510,- that make's 650 $ Im being ripped of here...I think it cant be made by a local a/c specialist. With Ferrari nearly broke I know Marranello needs the money but with the winter coming up I have some time to try to fix it by my self.
Im 100% sure something that replaces it can be made by ANY A/C repair shop on the planet. As long as you DONT tell them it is for a Ferrari! I usually murmur something like "its from a kit car"... In most cases the price for the replacement part is 10-20% of the Ferrari price...
Is there any way to repair the section that is broken and add some fittings? Could this be done by a regular A/C specialist? I have a similar problem (pipe has a small crack / leak) and was told the pipe that runs front to back through the car tunnel had to have the engine removed to replace it. So I am waiting until the next engine out service to do it (and adding a little freon every couple months until then). BT
If you cut the broken ends back past the point where the tube is deformed, the break can be repaired by slipping a section of Al tube that just fits over the break, & then soldering it on using A/C rated Al solder & flux. If there's a hose crimped to the tube, you may have to protect it by wrapping with wet rags or immersing in water. Here's a Al solder source: http://www.jwharris.com/jwprod/solderalloys/
I went to a local a/c specialist ..he told me that it wasn't a problem to repair the pipe. I will post some pictures when the pipe returns. Did not remove the a/c line yet the tank has still 50% fuel . Thanks for the input
Let the summer begin......It was about 250 $ and its working just fine... There was no need for the feul tank to come out. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I dont know I bought it broken. If have it for 4 years now and never had the pleasure of a working ac. I think it happened with the belt change..
I'm guessing who ever dropped the engine out forgot to disconnect the a/c lines before they did it. That's the only way I can see something like happening.
I've added this Fchat thread to the bottom of the A/C section of the 348 Primer: http://webpages.charter.net/aircover/348/1994Ferrari348Spider.html#AirConditioning
$250 is more of a rip than 650 from Ferrari. That set of fitting connections is under high pressure and may leak if it is not done properly. lets give it the summer and see what happens.
On the invoice I see that he used liquid leak detection and a UV light to check the new pipe. He also advised me to let the system checked out next year.
I had my cracked A/C line fixed at Auto Italia a few months ago. They removed the gas tank and A/C line, then had the pipe repaired locally by a welder. The A/C has been working great ever since. I saw the pipe before they put it back in the car and the weld looked like a part that would come from a factory. I woulld recommend this repair. BT
Aye! Well done. But Luuk's repair was done without removing the gas tank. It would be good to know if that repair has held, as that might decrease the downtime of anyone else with said problem (might cost a bit less, too).
Sorry guys for not responding earlier but I didnt see you asking if it was still working. I had my ac system being check and its still in perfect condition so let the summer begin.
