My father has decided it is time for a change and wants to sell his 512TR and upgrade to something else more headturning, exotic and faster. We live in the UK and have considered an F40 but the only problem is that it's next to impossible to find a RHD one (THE UK STANDARD) here, there is only LEFT HAND DRIVE available and that's no good to us. We've also checked out a Lamborghini Murcielago which is plenty fast enough and sounds awesome with a Tubi. However the looks don't really reach out and grab me like the 512TR plus it's been designed by the guy responsible for Audi and Skoda which is another put off. Jaguar XJ220 is another possiblity but it doesn't make a satisfying noise. It looks like the choice has been narrowed down to a Lambo Diablo VT Roadster pictured below... Are there any other options out there? I'm looking for something outrageous looking, fast and awesome sounding otherwise forget it.

Older Diablos look better before Audi came and watered things down. Just my opinion.

i certainly can appreciate the "need to swap" but your father might consider that the 512TR is one of those cars that he might really regret getting rid of. it's the last of the mid-12s (at least until maybe the car after the 600). very desirable. i don't see it depreciating a ton in the next many years. it's a special special car. if i had a 512TR in the garage, i'd figure out how to keep it and augment the stable rather than trading it.

my two pence, worth well less than you paid for it.

    g/l regardless!

    doody.

    DOODY,
I agree, however it's possible to get bored of something and want a change, as crazy as it sounds in this case.

Theres no such thing as an Upgrade to a 512TR. It is the most beautiful road Ferrari ever built. Maybe a perfect E Type Jag but the 512TR is just light years ahead of the E in comfort & even practicality :)

I'll suggest the 6.0 rather than the Roadster ... but yeah ... upgrading from a 512TR is a tough job ...

wouldnt an f50 be more than what the budget allows? anyway, imo the diablo is the right car, weather it be an early one, a roadster, or a 6.0

6.0 diablo sounds like a good choice... but for that much money you could throw in a 360 coupe here in the states... 2 for that price.

Hmmm, could maybe scrape your way into an F40, but right-hand drive is tough. . .

You don't sound like you're looking for vintage, but how about something in between, like a mint Countach 5000s?

    Have fun!

Regardless of how you feel about the Murcie, it will turn more heads than that dog old 512TR ever will.

    Yes and no, William. ;)

Yes, there's no such upgrade from a 512TR in this price range.

No, the most beautiful road Ferrari in this price range is a Euro spec, carb'd 308 GTB. :)

    TR: Wicked.
    308 GTB: Beautiful.

BTW, I was surprised to see the author's dad wants something more "head-turning" than a 512TR. IMO, the only way you make a 512TR more head-turning is to have two of 'em driving within feet of each other.
