Im having trouble getting gears in my 348. The pedal feels 100%,but i cant get any gears when the car is at operating temp while running. It did it the other day, then came good, now again today! The slave clyinder is not leaking, neither is the master cylinder.I put the car in gear, start it up,then with my foot hard on the clutch pedal,i bring the revs up and the car wants to almost drive off on me!! I have a feeling the clutch pressure plate diaphram fingers have maybe collapsed?? I dont wanna force it and then break the gear shifter?!! Has anyone else had the same problem with theirs?? Maybe it could also be the gear cable adjustment. Im not sure on how to adjust this.so if someone can help, that will be awesome!! Im so upset!! I just wanna drive it!! hehe Cheers

What is the level of your clutch/brake fluid under the front bonnet?

Your clutch is dragging. Fix it now before you damage your transmission. The clutch repair is very, very easy for anyone with basic skills. The single disc clutch is easier than the dual disc. You can have the clutch removed in an hour. Once it's off, you can determine where the problem is located. Probably the pressure plate, but possibly the disc is oil contaminated from the shaft seals, or the flywheel.

Dragging??? i dunno man?? But you are right, maybe get it apart and see what i need. It is a twin plate, they retail for AU$4681 and the slavebody/throwout bearing goes for $2812. But........................ exedy here in Australia, can refurbish them for bugger all,new lining on the plates and fix up the pressure plate!! So i will see how i go thanks!

No worries. Like Miltonian said, you've just got a dragging clutch, then.

The free fix for 348's is to simply tighten the center inner hex nut (middle of picture, below). This moves the flywheel pressure plate fingers closer to the throw out bearing, adding life to a dying clutch.

If you do torque the large outer nut, make sure that the inner hex nut is all of the way out, first. Then tighten down the inner hex nut.

That will keep you on the road while you've got your new clutch and triple shaft seals ordered...which will let you do the job right with the new parts.

NO NO NO NO NO DOubt.

Where on earth did you get that info..

That big nut should be tightened once fully and stays done tight for ever. The centre grub screws set preload on the input shaft, to stop chatter which encourages the triple seal leak...

NO DOUBT, your advice is UTTERLY WRONG and DANGEROUS.

    It's wrong, all wrong.

The big nut (actually, its a bolt) holds the flywheel into the bell housing, that's all, and the little grub screw effects nothing with regard to clutch operation.... only input shaft preload, which should be slight.

Unless actually experienced with such things, you should qualify your advice with a source, and/or leave it ambiguous.

Ferrarifixer, learn something new everyday! You are saying the center grub screw is independent of the larger bolt? Can you please advise how the input shaft preload is set? Should this be done anytime the clutch is changed? Thank you again for sharing knowledge we otherwise learn through painful trial and error. John.

Are the discs worn out? Or is it just a matter of broken fingers on the pressure plate?

    Good progress!

I'm not sure what I said but if I said it "its right"!

FerrariFixer...are you just trying to get a rise out of me or do you really think this hex nut is for input shaft preload? Please explain why you think this is a preload nut and I'll tell you why it isn't. If I open my fat a$$ trap I'm usually right.

And maybe Ernie better treat me with more respect otherwise I may forget where these ball bearings go in his gearbox you smart a$$.

    You guys are great fun.
