Does the correct Dino clock face say: "Veglia Borletti" above the center? and "Elettronico" below the center?
Mine (which is original) says: "Veglia Borletti" above the center and nothing else. Its on my 71 Dino 246GT. Maybe early models used mechanical units and then later they switched to the "electronic" kind (?) Pietro
My 1971 246GT doesn't say Electronico either, although I'm sure it is. Probably just changed the face for no particular reason.
My 1973 246GTS has the electronico marking. Was the electronico one better than the eariler ones? Mine still works!
My 1972 GT clock which came with when I purchased this car in 1996 says VEGLIA BORETTI between 10 o'clock and 2 o'clock. ELETTRONICO between 8 and 4. I have a used spare one and it's same.
Here is one on eBay http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&viewitem=&item=250168539656 ad text: You are bidding on a original new old stock clock for a Ferrari Dino 246 GT or GTS. It also fits to an Dino 206 GT or a Fiat Fino Spider, Maybe also on a Ferrari 365 GTB Daytona ? Nearly all Dino Clocks stopped working after all these years and are since a long time not available from Ferrari, This one is one of the last optimized original clocks to be identified on the "electronico" letter unique chance for your car !
Umm, my clock still works just fine, but it does runs a little slow after a couple of days and then needs to be reset after losing about 5 minutes. "This is one of the last optimized original clocks . . . ." Was that from an LSR listing on eBay? What kind of "whooiiee" is this?
and the clock that is on ebay is currently at $501.00, ...unfortunately by a bidder with a ZERO feedback rating.
It's probably a shill. It takes time but you can find the same clock on the Fiat Dino. I finally gave up on my mechanical clock (after hundreds of $$$ of repairs) and swapped the quartz movement from a similar period clock from a Dino coupe. I couldn't retain the original dial so it does say "Quarto" on it but otherwise is identical. The only issue is removing and re-installing the chrome bezel to get to the movement. I also had to refab the acrylic lens for fit but you can find Fiat replacements on eBay as well. FYI - go to a clock specialist not a just an instrumentation shop. There is a big difference. You can get the new Quarto clock here - http://www.international-auto.com/index.cfm?fa=p&pid=2641&posid=2238920 Image Unavailable, Please Login
The early cars use mechanical Veglia clocks which are easy to identify because the bucket is metal instead of plastic and they have a two piece time adjustment pin with a screw in the top. I worked with a watchmaker a couple of years ago to combine the face and adjustment pin from my original Veglia mechanical clock with the innards, movement and bucket of a Veglia quartz clock. It works flawlessly now. ...Keith Image Unavailable, Please Login
My 72 US Spec (4004)! I'm pretty sure it's the original clock. Keeps "almost" perfect time. While we're on the subject of gages, I have a question. How do you get the inst. cluster panel out? I can get the thumb screws out and the panel free but it won't come out far enough to get my big hand in to unhook the tach cable (I think that's the one). There's not enough slack to pull it out far enough. Anyone else had this problem? Bill Image Unavailable, Please Login
Just for info I am sure you guys in the states have equally good repairers, but this firm in the UK overhauled all my gauges, including replacing the black plastic bezel and chrome trim on the speedo & tacho. All cleaned, tested and came back like new http://www.speedycables.com/
Sometimes the cluster face edge catches on the mouse hair, in which case the rolled, rubber edge will come off of the cluster face edge. Try gently pulling from the top edge in short strokes at several locations to "walk" it out. If that's not it, then it may be the speedo cable as the length is usually the limiting factor. Get on your back and reach up under the dash to see if there is much tension on the speedo cable, then release the connector. The tach is electric. Hope this helps.
There isn't much slack but there should be enough to pull it out. Sometimes it gets hung up so a bit of wiggling helps. Be sure to disconnect the battery first. If necessary, lie on your back and disconnect the gauges from below the dash itself rather than behind the cluster frame. My $.02.
My (L-series car) clock face is identical to Keith's. Had the innards replaced w/ a quartz movement a few years back by Palo Alto Speedometer. Runs flawlessly.
I thought interesting to dig u this toic as I found some arts that could be of any use for some of you. Brand new replacement Veglia Borletti clocks in the boxes. The button is at the wrong place, but the guy also sells the correct dials. So you just have to make a hole at the right place (on the 6) and have the button chromed. Image Unavailable, Please Login
