Hi guys, still restoring the 308 GT4 but have just found that the original fuel pump looks a bit tired and the single 12v feed wire is about to break off at any second, I want to replace the pump with a facet red top which is capable of producing 7 or so psi, what is the correct pressure for the carb 308's and is the best way to regulate it with a filter king?
I see the top of the range Malpassi filter king has a built in guage,is the filter in a facet a pre filter or do I still need to run a pre filter with one of these?

Good question... I'll be eager to see the responses. Although I've got an aftermarket Holley fuel pump in my GT4, it's always good to know what's "correct" (in terms of PSI, etc.) for the car to run, and also to know what other equipment will work in the case of a future failure of what I've got on there now.

Based on some past posts here the best recommended replacement pump for the carb 308's is the Carter pump which can be purchased at Jegs or other on line auto parts store. It is the quitest and maintain 5psi and great volume. Try searching some of the past fuel pump posts.

I never got my car to run right with the Facet and I hated the loud noise it would constantly make (characteristic of those pumps).

I reconditioned my original pump with a new electrical motor (which is what failed originally) and it's run perfectly since.

Required pressure is 5 psi (manual calls for 3.5 m/H2O...) and it should deliver 100L/Hr (or 26.5 gal/Hr).

Thanks for the info,I dont want the facet pump if it makes a loud noise,it would drive me crazy,Peter, it looks like you know your way around the original pump, is it easy to replace the length of wire for the feed?

Not really. You would have to pull the top housing off by prying the metal tabs which hold it on to the body to gain access to the wire on the inside/behind the grommet. In doing so, when putting the top back on, it'll never really line up properly, or stay on the body tightly... Been there, done that.

You can try to repair the wire from the outside and then reinforce the wire by building it up with shrink-tubing. With my new pump motor, I did that to provide some strain-relief for the wire, to make it last longer (see photos in previous post).
