Two of the big car shows that have become staples of many FChatters' September will be on the same day this year, which has happened before. Fortunately their times are staggered enough that it is entirely possible to do both shows, which I and other FChatters have done as well. The date is September 19th.

The first is the 13th annual United Way Car & Bike Show, which, as usual, will be at the GM IT Innovation Center on Warsaw Road just north of Mansell Road in Alpharetta (behind Hennessy Porsche). The show officially runs from 10 to 3:30, but as the awards are usually handed out around 2:30, it is possible to leave early for the other event, and it isn't that far to go.

This show parks cars with an empty space between them, so you don't have to worry about door dings, and there is a separate area for motorcycles. Some areas are quite shady, others are not. There are usually plenty of vendors, a good band playing "oldies", a play area for the kids, a BBQ vendor for lunch, and some vintage UPS vehicles on display. (UPS, which used to own the property, is still a show sponsor.) They give out lots of trophies, and most of us who've been there have won at least one. Registration is $20 in advance or $25 at the show; more info, including a registration form, at United Way of Greater Atlanta Carshow.

The second is the 15th annual First Redeemer Church Car & Motorcycle Show at the church on Old Alpharetta Road at GA-141 in Cumming. (Entrance is on the Old Alpharetta side.) This show runs from 3:00 to 6:00, so you should be able to get home by dark.

The lot is huge, so no problem there, but shade is at a bit of a premium. The registration fee is $10 at the show, and for that you get free dinner! (Okay, it's just a hot dog or hamburger, chips and a drink, but the price is right.) There is also a very nice, air-conditioned coffee lodge adjacent, where you can get pastries and coffee and even watch some college football on the TV. They give out lots of door prizes, and I think that most of us who've been there have won a few. There's no website, but the flyer below has details. (Note that Frank Parker's Boxer is still on it!)

A little bump, plus a reminder that Atlanta Italian Car Day will be Saturday, November 7 at the usual place as of late, Lillian Webb Park just east of downtown Norcross.
