Do you have to pay tax in GA on a used car purchased for a collection, which will not be driven on public roads?
The collection is located in GA...

As usual the bearer of bad news...LOL

    Thanks Henry...appreciate your response

Maybe we need to set-up a used car dealership so we can drive around with dealer tags...

don't know if that answer is entirely correct... Georgia taxes car sales and ad valorum / property taxes are collected on the basis of registration for a tag... purchasing from a dealer, the dealer / retailer must collect a sales tax... purchasing a car from an individual could become a purchase of personal property as any other collectible which is not currently taxable at time of purchase... as long as a tag is not applied for, putting it into the system as a taxable vehicle... one could still apply for a title, since titles are not used for generating tax revenue... Georgia taxes personal property on a separate schedule that is personally reported, depending on valuation... the personal property tax is collected annually which could result in a greater amount paid, after many years, than paying the one time vehicle tax at purchase ... the question becomes at which point does one get cuffed to the ankles before the tax man has his way
