This could have been the most perfect day in November, and one of the best for Italian car day in 20 years. We had 75 cars this year on the new ground at Lillian Webb park. Hilton Head bit into us a bit. But we got it in and lots of sun with some really great cars.
Jim rolling in like a boss in the gold wheel 328, looking good. Rick was there with some off brand Bi Turbo thing. Vince came by to tell me what channel the race would be on. So all in all a great time.

Tons of Alfa's ruled the grounds, the most I have ever seen in one spot.
Some sort of Lambo that was the "Pirelli" edition only 50 made in the spyder. LP-700 4 or something like that , lots of odd numbers on these cars.

I got up at 4:30 Am to head out of the Mountains. Left about 5:20am got there about 7:15am and it was pitch dark all the way down. I thought the sun would never come up. I pulled up and John Montogmery and Cindy were already unloading the truck.

Notice the attention to detail with the hand built ramp to get the cars safely on the field. This was developed at MIT , most likely a CAD system ran all the numbers, etc.

Nice pictures and great weather. Actually, the Red 250 was first but the TDF spider was second (me) and the t Rossa 3rd.

You know I looked at that...... and thought you were 2nd, but had no brain power to make it stick. Your car looked super, man that color was really smooth.
Glad you won, and glad you came out.

    The day flew by.

Here are a few of mine: the class winners for Fiat, Alfa Romeo, Lamborghini, Ferrari and Maserati. The class awards were voted on only by all the entrant drivers.

The Alfa winner was interesting as it was a 1996 Spider that was never imported into the U.S. As pointed out, the Miura won its class, Best in Show, and the popular award (aka "The Car I'd Most Like to Drive Home"). The last award was voted on by everybody, including spectators.

I frankly didn't think the GTE would win for Ferrari because it arrived so late. (I had already submitted my ballot, and there were plenty already in the box.)

Nice seeing you and everyone. This is one of my favorite shows of the year. Nice cars and people without the stress of judging.

Where there's a will (and money), there's a way. Remember that the Berlinetta Boxer was never officially imported, either, but a fair number made their way into the U.S.

I always have a soft spot for the Mondial coupes. We had a red 1983 and then a Sliver 1987 back in the 80's. ALways wanted one with the ABS and power steering in 1990.

The Open class, which is for marques not otherwise represented, is often quite moribund, and I remember at least one year in which there were no entries. Not this year! Some interesting cars showed up, which resulted in last year's winning Cadillac Allante (eligible since it was styled by Pininfarina) not winning anything this time.

Third place was this Mini. Mini, you say? I was puzzled until I saw that it was built in Italy by Innocenti, who built the cars under license for some time. (Later models were restyled by Bertone.) Notice the sticker of the Rome concessionaire on the back window. It mentions Innocenti, Austin Morris and British Leyland!

The winner was this most unusual one-off, a Bizzarrini-Lamborghini (try saying that three times fast!) with a targa-type roof. The story of this car was told in the folder seen on the back deck, and goes something like this:

After Bizzarrini's operation went under in 1969, a fellow named Giancarlo Reali wound up with most of the left-over components, including this body, which got mated along the way to a Lamborghini 400GT chassis. In 2006, a visitor discovered the car in Reali's shop in Livorno and bought it, provided that Reali and Giotto Bizzarrini (who still collaborated with Reali at times) would finish it.

For power, there was a wrecked Lamborghini Jarama which provided the engine, which fit the chassis once a bulge/scoop was added to the hood. (I read that Bizzarrini had actually designed that engine, which I believe was substantially the same one as in the Miura, when he worked for Lamborghini before going off on his own.)

The current owner trailered the car down from Asheville, and I understand that the car was difficult to start here because of the elevation difference. Imagine retuning those six Webers?

Stylistically, someone said that the car resembled the original Dodge Viper. The removable roof panel was dead flat in profile and I imagine the car looks better with it removed.

I wonder how much a car like that ever gets driven. To and from the trailer is not enough.

I would not own a car I had to tow everywhere. Unless it was an FXX etc.

Hope your dad is okay. Meanwhile, here's a kindred spirit. The badge on front says 750 but the card described it as a 600.
