Caffeine & Octane is on 1/15

Just in case you weren't aware, this month's C & O was postponed twice, once to 1/8 (because of New Year's) and then to 1/15 (because of snow & ice). So it will happen at Perimeter Mall this Sunday, under unusually mild weather for January.

 

But they won't let you park in the exotics lot, will they?

 

The organizers' foresight in postponing the event paid off, as expected, with a huge crowd. (As I told Ivan Ruiz, the weather was "better than Puerto Rico".)

I also ran into a number of familiar faces: my ex-boss Rich who was there with his teenage son and their Dodge Challenger (and about 70 more); my old friend Dr. Frank who is a fellow model builder and a 911 owner; Ivan with a Ferrari for a change, a 365 GT 2+2 which he was using to help promote this year's Atlanta Concours; and of course Andy with his "cute" Fiat 500.

I didn't get up as early as I had hoped but it was early enough for me to make the Gold lot by 7:10. As this first group of photos showed, the lot filled up (nearly completely by 8:00) with some interesting stuff, including a new Acura NSX, a BMW i8 in dazzle wrap, a Tesla Model X, and a couple of wooden electric scooters built in Sandy Springs! (If you're wondering about my car, look in the background of the 5th photo.)

Of course, the inevitable drone showed up. (Quick, where's my can of bug bomb?) And I shouldn't have to tell you who belonged to the license plate in the last photo. More photos later.

Leaving the sanctity of the Gold lot, I made my way north towards the "Central" lot, where the car dealers hung out, and found more exotics, topped off by the McLaren P1, which attracted much attention. Also here were an Aston Martin DB11 and the Mercedes GLE coupe, the latest execution of a fastback SUV in the style of the BMW X6. And on the north side of the lot were Ivan and his green 365 GT.
