I love it. I'm sure Steve McQueen would have been happy to see that it still gets to go out and play, instead of wasting away in a museum somewhere! (I say this as someone who bought a 1995 F355 Spider "new" in 2010 with 124 miles on it, and drove it! ~5,500 miles now and a few more this morning)

What does it weigh, all up? And is the motor in a period state of tune or has it been modernized at all?
Another cool Baja car by another Hollywood car guy... James Garner's AIR (American International Racing) Baja Sc/Rambler. One of 2 4WD cars built. The only survivor. Pretty much as it finished the Baja in 1969... Image Unavailable, Please Login
Glad you're still playing with the Boot, Jim! That thing is awesome. I can't imangine the like you get on the street, but I'm sure you're used to that by now.
Baja Boot is all serviced and ready to go for the Summer. I took her for a long drive and I'm still smiling. When you drive her Steve rides with you. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Very cool! I'm not a huge fan of the off roading, but the vintage stuff is awesome. There's a gent on another forum with the Datsun Baja 240Z as raced by Pete Brock in '73. He was invited to show it at Amelia - probably the first time I realized how cool these machines are. The Baja Boot takes it to another level. The provenance only enhances that - what a great toy you have! Enjoy it!
love it! couple questions: in early photos the tires look almost like "balloon" tires, were they custom made back then and unavailable now, or are the currect tires just overall better (for street and mud)? Is there a reason the front of the frame is left uncovered? I can understand no fenders but leaving the battery box and fuel cell open seem like a risk of something hitting them? Keep the pics (and vids?) coming please!
We still have those original tires but they are really for sand. On the road they're not really usable. These are Kevlar M/S/Off road that are great. The battery box is marine grade and the fuel cell is very strong.
