7-3-2012: New thread for next NHL season, providing that it happens what with a major players-owners contract issue on the skillet. Slim free agent market, with plenty of clubs prospecting. Figuring Parise and Suter will announce soon, after that the pickins are sparse. Your thoughts?
It finally happened. Columbus BJ's moved Nash, and to the Big Apple. I hope he scores 40 there - the fans will love him. But a huge trade for sure. That said, I hope these jokers arrive at a viable "labor" contract, and soon.
I thought I read somewhere that if no agreement is in place in time for the season that the players have agreed to start the season and play under the current CBA.
I really hope they work it out, they can't afford to have another lockout. The NHL has been on a serious upswing since the most recent lockout but could lose some steam if they force another one.
Really hoping they settle soon.....although I guess my team will keep the cup a bit longer if they don't....haha But in all seriousness, I'm too excited for this upcoming season for it to not happen...I read somewhere that the owners don't have much incentive to strike a deal before December, as October and November are generally dead months for the NHL.....
A pretty big league for juniors (16-20). They also do quite a bit with younger kids I believe. Their "stronghold" is, naturally, up "North" but the biggest difference to other junior leagues is it's not "pay to play" - My buddy's daughter recently started with the San Jose Junior Sharks, and IIRC it's costing him ~$2-3000 per season! http://nahl.com/ Cheers, Ian
Looks like we are SOL (again). Lockout as of tomorrow (9-15-2012). Guess I'll seek my hockey thrills more locally, with the Plymouth Whalers (Ontario Hockey League).
**** 'em! I forgave 'em 2004 - Something had to be done. But, another lockout = My (and my buddy's 30+ years of season tickets) are now moving on to Earthquakes soccer. Right now (ahead of their new park), the tix are cheaper and they play the damn games. Hopefully, season tix in the dump they're at now means "first choice" in the new (gonna be awesome!) park. I'm done with hockey. Cheers, Ian
+1 It's a shame...I'm with you Neal, at least we can debate when my Knights meet your Whalers I will never watch NHL hockey again. In fact, the most hockey I will ever watch are the games I officiate Way to go NHL (and I mean both the owners and the players), way to burn away a profitable league....it takes very stupid, very arrogant, and very greedy people to ruin a good thing.
+1 I suspect it's only a matter of time before they lock out their zebras - You may just get a call up! +1 However, I lay this one firmly at the owners feet. From this weeks SI: Cheers, Ian
For real?????! I hadn't heard a deal was reached. Any of this season salvaged? When are they starting??
Check ESPN's site, they agreed to one this weekend after a 16-hour face-to-face...it still has to be voted and approved, but looks like it's a done deal
Many people are saying camp begins on the 12th, and the regular season begins on the 19th. So either way, 1 more week until puck drop! It's Christmas all over again for me hockey's the only thing us Canadians know. Had the season been completely scrapped, I don't know what I would've done with myself. My life has been saved
