Alright, football is over, bring on baseball. Cards just announce Chris Carpenter is unlikely to pitch in 2013.
As a long-time Astro's fan, I hope we lose just over 100 games. Carlos Rodon- Prize of the 2014 Draft - The Crawfish Boxes
Here's the video of said brawl. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0445HMGAzA0]Canada vs Mexico Brawl (World Baseball Classic 2013) - YouTube[/ame] The tensions started to rise when one of the Canadian batters bunted for an infield single. The Mexican 3B was clearly upset, but at that point it was nothing serious. The next Canadian batter came to the plate, and on a 1-0 pitch the Mexican pitcher threw something way inside. The batter yelled some words at the pitcher, and at that point warnings were issued to both benches. On 2-0, the batter was beaned on the right shoulderblade, and proceeded to charge the mound. The benches cleared, and...well, you can imagine what happens after that. In addition, the pro-Mexican crowd threw things onto the field, and apparently a water bottle hit one of the Canadian players. That player also attempted to go into the stands, but was subdued by teammates. This is the first time I've ever gotten to watch something like this live and as it happened (well, I remember the Rangers/Royals benches-clearing situation last year, but no punches were thrown). I don't think it's shown in the video, but after everything got settled down, they had police officers come in to secure the crowd. They even showed on TV two officers escorting a fan out. After all was said and done, a total of seven players were ejected.
Clayton Kershaw made a statement in LA today against the Giants...not only did he throw a complete game shutout (4 H, 0 BB, 7 K), but he drilled his first career HR to center field. Now that's a performance! In other news, Reds OF Ryan Ludwick dislocated his right shoulder while sliding into a base. Bryce Harper also jacked 2 HRs today.
My Yankees have so many career defining injuries that I might be wishing for the same numbers at the end of this season.
My Cards take to the field in about 40 minutes. Late night start to the season, but I'll manage to stay up and watch.
I didn't really watch the game, just flipped a few times to check the score. Lost interest after the 2005 WS flop. I am, however, interested in buying an Astros hat for the first time since I was a kid. Love that they went back to the logo they never should have left.
Something Dodger fans have been waiting years for: Sandy Koufax returns to the mound in Dodger Stadium and throws a perfect strike to Orel Hershiser. Amazing. Koufax was the reason I became a Dodger fan as a kid. Could it really be all those years ago? Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Me too...but not in a good way. Currently watching the Cards game while doing some work on my laptop.
Yu Darvish has a perfect game going against the Astros. Serious bid too....2 outs in the bottom of the 7th, with 12 K's. Wow. EDIT-heading to the 8th, still perfect.

If i was placing odds in April 2012 on unlikely 2013 opening day storylines, this one would rank as the most improbable: Defending World Champ Ace Zito throws 3-hit shutout in home opener: Extends unbeaten streak to 15. Good for him. And good for us! .
RA Dickey got rocked today in Toronto...he gave up 7 runs today. 5 runs in his previous start. Man, I'm glad the Rangers didn't get him. Will Middlebrooks is 4-4 with 3 HRs today against the Jays today.
Rangers have developed the ability to blow it on the last out He has another chance tonight but the bigger story is Johnny Manziel is throwing out the first pitch against the Angels!
Who saw the Padres/Dodgers brawl last night? Zack Greinke hit Carlos Quentin in the arm, then he charged the mound and the benches cleared. After everything calmed down, Matt Kemp was HOT...yelling at the Padres as they got back to their dugout. The benches cleared again. After the game, Kemp and Quentin got into a heated confrontation, which was broken up by Clayton Richards and police. Meanwhile, Zack Greinke suffered a broken left collarbone. There was a bit of history...earlier in the series, Quentin was beaned by another Dodger pitcher, but didn't retaliate and walked to first. In a 2009 game between the Royals and White Sox, Greinke (Royals) beaned Quentin (White Sox) in the exact same spot. However, he was restrained by the Royals' catcher and home plate umpire. Aside from that, here are some other interesting stories as of recent... -A goat head was delivered to Wrigley Field in an attempt to lift the Cubs' curse...it didn't work. The Cubs blew a 5-0 lead yesterday. -The Angels and Blue Jays, heavily favored to win their divisions, are in last place in their respective divisions. The Astros aren't in last place anymore! -Felix Hernandez got his 1,500th K last night, and Albert Pujols got his 1,000th XBH the night before.
I saw this last night and Quentin was a total idiot. He should be tossed out of the game for months. The guy crowds the plate like a Sumo wrestler at a buffet, get'***** on more times than Tom Cruise at a bar filled with Cougars, and then beats up a 90 pound weakling (being paid $147 Million $$$) for an inside pitch that hits his arms? Kemp is a hot head. Apparently he went after the Padres in the parking lot after the game! Matt Kemp, Carlos Quentin separated by police while leaving Petco Park
IMHO, the Dodgers can either use this incident to gel as a team, or fall apart. They'll probably win 90 games on talent alone, but team chemistry does count for something. The Giants lost 2 superstars last year, and still willed their way to a World Series title. My hope is, of course, that the Dodger players use this incident to all independently decide that they are not worth each others time, and play accordingly.
